Hot on the heals of their new 00 gauge flexitrack C&L have announced a crowdfunding project for new track bases in both EM and P4 gauges. C&L had the artwork for the 00 gauge track altered to both EM and P4 gauge standards

60' panels
Mainline which has keys facing in the same direction
Branchline which has keys which alternate
The sleepers are 1.5 mm thick, chair and rail height 3 mm

Details of the crowdfunding is available from C&L, Phil is setting up an account which will hold the crowdfunding monies in a separate account and funds will only be accessed by C&L when sufficient revenues have been obtained to  proceed with the project

Hello John,

Interesting. I wish Phil all the best with it. Do you have any idea on production schedules and do you have to 'fund' the product start-up to be eligible to purchase later ?

Remind him that the old Great Western used 2 bolt track.....for the future.

Hi John,

Looking good. :)

The usual rule on single lines was to drive keys "towards the river, towards the station, towards the rail joint".

That means the direction in which the keys are driven, i.e. they remain projecting in the opposite direction.

So you can use the main-line version (the right way round) on single lines in those cases, "the river" meaning down a gradient, "the station" meaning where trains are braking or accelerating.

On level single track, keys were driven towards the nearest rail joint. i.e. the keys change direction in the middle of each rail length. Is that what you mean by "alternating"?

I have never seen keys alternating from one sleeper to the next -- that would be a pain for the gang to keep tight, swinging the hammer in opposite directions for each one. :?

cheers,

Martin.

Early days yet, certainly in the short term the P4 and EM project will not start until funding has been established, the crowd funding price is at a discount, if and when its available to all the cost per meter will be more

The 00 gauge track is available. limited amount with rail threaded (the new jig has arrived, awaiting a new rail puller !!). Plenty on a thread it yourself basis and the track base is well stocked.

I have seen it written in a few articles that this is correct. On the other hand I understand what the local permanent way staff did sometime would differ.

I am the messenger and the customer has the choice

Can John (Hayfield) shed any light on the crowd-funding model C&L are using? I cannot find any detailed information on the website. If I order 1 meter of assembled P4 track does that count or does it need to be a (much) larger quantity?

Phil is still working out the details and waiting for advice from his accountant. The design, research and development has been done, the R&D is off the back of the development of the 00 tool, the design has been adapted/developed from the 00 gauge art work.

Phil is seeking a number of investors to have each tool made, each investing £150 and in return would receive 20 meters of track, he has a minimum number of investors required which will include himself. these tools cost several thousands of £'s, plus a jig to feed the rail through

Phil intends to have a separate bank account to hold the investments until sufficient funds have been raised to allow the tool (s) to be built

This is a link to the initial information
