Dear all, On the horizon is a new version of the software which runs Templot Club. Today I received this advance froth: The new version is a true web 2.0 product. It has great social networking tools to create an active community around your forums. We have spent a lot of time on the interface overhaul, and I think we did a great job! I am very proud to see that we are redefining the forum landscape. Personally speaking, taking an active part in the design of such an inspiring product has been a wonderful experience for me. Now, we are counting on you to unleash the full potential of the new WowBB. Hmm. I think I will wait and see before unleashing too much potential!  It's now nearly a year since we moved from Yahoo to these Templot Club web forums. Before I start looking at this new version, it would be good to have some feedback. Has it been a good idea to move from Yahoo, what do you like and not like about it, what would you like to see in Templot Club if we adopt the new version? regards, Martin. |

Hi Martin, The Templot Club is great for keeping up with ideas and gossip. A great help with the 40' x17. 'O' gauge layout I am working on. thank you for your hard work and Templot for us to play with. Regards.........Sonnie |

Hi Martin, For some time I have been an armchair modeller, but I have now found enough room for a small P4 plank. This, and other forums, is the way I have kept my finger on the pulse of what is happening in the modelling world around me. I, very much, like the look and feel of this forum. If the new version is an improvement on this one, then I will be very pleased. Regards, Graham |

This forum is much better than Yahoo! - no adverts for a start. I'm seeming to like non Yahoo based forums more and more. (Recently a friend wanted to share a photo with me via flickr, which is now owned by Yahoo. I had to sign into Yahoo just to view the picture! and if I didn't have an account I would have had to create one - madness. We never did get to the bottom of why it required me to login, computers!) Martin, The form of this forum is just as I like it.  No blinking and space limiting advertisements, or unwanted and hard to close pages and more such things. I am with you, wait before unlashing too much potential - for whom ?Regards, René. |

All, I receive the messages as a daily summary from both "The Club" and the Yahoo Group. I find the Yahoo summary far easier to read than the summary from "The Club" Cheers Denis |

The only real issue that I have with this forum s/w is that it's sometime difficult to get a decent printed copy of a thread. Even the "printer friendly" version often yields an image that is too wide to fit on landscape US paper. I often have to resort to hand copy-and-pasting the articles into a Word document and printing from there. IF the new forum s/w version better supports "printer friendly" printing, then it might be worth considering. Regards, Joe |

You didn't say which browser you are using. Assuming it's Firefox, click the File > Page Setup... menu item: firefox_print_setup.png  and tick the box for Shrink To Fit Page Width. The page will then be scaled down to fit the images within the margins (if you use the Printer friendly option on the forum). Probably the margin settings on the other tab could be reduced too. If the new forum s/w version better supports "printer friendly" printing, then it might be worth considering.It now seems that the new forum software will be available only to users who host their forum with the software company. We aren't doing that, so no go. Sorry to have misled you. The reason seems to be that the membership lists for all the forums they host will be combined into some form of giant networking community. It sounds utterly awful, so again, no go. In the absence of an official upgrade, I will brush up on my php coding and make a few improvements myself. If I ever find the time. regards, Martin. |

Instead of printing directly to the printer, try printing to a PDF generator such as pdf995, or the Adobe virtual printer if you have it. Then you can set a custom page size wide enough to include the images. You can then print the PDF file via Adobe Reader, which includes page scaling functions. regards, Martin. |

But Firefox and Opera are the browsers of choice for most computer-savvy users. Which I tend to assume describes members of this forum. If you haven't tried them (free), I recommend that you give them a try. Firefox is the more user-friendly. Opera has rather more technical options for advanced users. You can retain IE as an alternative browser if you need it for specific sites for some reason. regards, Martin. |

Using anything not certified is grounds for immediate dismissal. As much as I'd prefer to use Firefox, I simply have no choice on the matter (at least at work). Period. At home I can do whatever I want, but if I want to "Templot" during my lunch break then I must abide by the Corporate limitations. W.R.T. the subject of printing from IE, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 pdf printer is what I've been using and what prompted this discussion. It doesn't support "scale to fit", at least not from an IE window. Maybe I'll try to find an alternate virtuat pdf printer to load and give that a try. Regards, Joe |

Hi Joe, It's great to know that although your masters won't allow Firefox or anything else to run, they are prepared to make an exception for Templot! However, please note that Templot is a recreational program for home use. It was never intended for use in a corporate environment. I get very nervous when folks tell me they are using it on a company computer which might be running important business software at the same time. If Firefox is too dangerous to risk, I don't think you should run Templot either. regards, Martin. |
