I seem to have a problem when I download the latest version of Templot.  It downloads OK and works fine, as does everything else on my PC (Windows 7); but when I try to switch the computer on next time the OS hangs up.  I have to go into Safe Mode and then do a recovery to the point before I downloaded Templot 225b.
I can't recall ever having a problem of this type before, and if I stick with 225a there is no problem.
In truth this is not a big issue - for the moment I can stick to 225a, and in January I'll be getting a new PC(Windows 10 obviously) and will download Templot directly to that and hope that that is OK.
But I thought I ought to flag this up in case there is an issue that needs attention; although as nobody else has raised this it does look like some peculiarity with my PC.  But puzzling that it has never occurred before with earlier updates.

Regards,
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for the report.

That's a puzzling one -- I don't know anything which Templot could do which would persist after switching off. Also there is nothing different about 225b from 225a in the way it installs, and no other similar reports from other users. How much spare disk space is available on the system?

Do you have any anti-virus installed (apart from Microsoft Security Essentials) for Windows7? My experience is that 9 times out of 10 funny issues like this are caused by AV programs.

Note that switching off and on again may not be enough to clear this problem. After installing 225b, try doing a full Windows Restart (which does more than a fast switch-on).

Also, have you tried 225c ? See:

 topic 3571

It is exactly the same as 225b for Templot2.

cheers,

Martin.

Martin,

I have downloaded and installed 225c, and all appears to be well.  At least I've just switched off and re-started the PC and there was no problem.  As you say it's a puzzle.

I suppose there is a possibility that there was some issue in Windows itself that just happened to coincide with my downloading 225b, but even that would seem a bit odd. I only use MS Security these days so there was no problem with the dreaded AVG etc..

I've downloaded every Templot upgrade since before 0.91 and so far as I can recall have never experienced a single problem.  Still, it appears to be sorted now, which is all that matters.
Perhaps the system is telling me it really is time to replace the PC and move on to Win10!

Kind regards,
Stuart

Martin,

The problem with my computer hanging recurred, which made me think it probably didn't have anything to do with Templot but had just coincided with my downloading 225b.
I checked the update history for Windows and sure enough there were some 'failed' updates.  I eventually managed to get them to install successfully, (one at a time!), and everything does now seem to be OK.  Perhaps as well that I'm getting the new PC in a few weeks.
Sorry to have bothered you with what you rightly supposed had nothing to do with Templot.

Kind regards,
Stuart

Templot is almost never the guilty party, however Microsoft has much to answer for! Failed/corrupted updates being a prime example.Dave
