I have a layout plan that was put together primarily using peco track geometry to "save time", it has ended up as anything but, but I still feel that the track plan is solid. The throat of the station on my layout looks like below:

My thoughts (as you can see above) are now to hand-lay rather than use ready-to-plonk components for the asymmetric threeway and the diamond - and generally I'm fairly comfortable with how this would work.

The lack of a Peco bullhead-double slip has made me realise however, that if I'm going to hand lay that too - then the whole area indicated by the pink line above can be laid almost however is required.

The only restriction, is that on the adjacent baseboard there is an expectation that the track will flow nicely into the platform roads. Here's a picture showing the two roughly mated (and the peco double-slip in-situ) to give an idea:

The two exits of the double slip go either side of an island platform, whose length I'd like to keep as long as is feasible.

My question is - knowing all this, is there something I can do with this slip to increase the size to something more realistic? Is there a way to ease the curvature of the diverging roads? Is the only solution given my parameters to make it a double-outside-slip? (If so, how the heck do I do that in templot!?)

Hi William,

To make it a double outside-slip, start again with the other half-diamond.

The crossing angle to match Peco 00/H0 is 1:4.7

Thanks, Martin!

I can't seem to get the curved turnout exit roads to match up - is it something obvious? I have the diamond crossing angle set properly, but can't seem to get the exit roads to match up unless I make the turnouts that form the exit road into 1:7.75!

EDIT: ignore me, using F9 to resize the crossing angle worked fine - I was being an idiot and not properly reading the text

Is there a way to clean up the rails which are crossing over flangeways?

It's mostly there, but quite hard to read. I would probably use a marker or coloured pencil to validate the actual rails when printed...

Hi William,

Yes, using partial templates in the usual way. It's easy, but a bit tedious, so don't bother until you know the design is finalised.

I know I have made several videos showing the process over the years, but just at present I can't remember where or find a link. Sorry.

I will be back when I've found one, or I will make another.

Thank you again - unfortunately it's ended up with one of the legs being too long and intruding into the middle of a diamond, I was hoping to slot an outside slip into the location to ease the angle of the Peco one - is there anything I can do that'll help?

Hi William,

When adjusting the turnout for that side, change to a 9ft straight switch, or if that is still too long, try a 1:24 short model switch.

That's the problem with an outside slip, it does need space.

If you post your BOX file, I may be able to make better suggestions.

p.s. the image gallery on here works fine, see the buttons above the text area. There is no need to use external hosting for your pictures.

Hi Martin, thank you - here's the box file - I'm not sure how to make changes to the switches now that it's all in-situ without breaking the whole thing!

i've attached the box file - it's only that one corner which needs modification, there is space for the other three legs to spare. Somehow the diamond templates got erased when I moved the template for printing, so I have recreated them but need to tweak the check rails.

Thanks for the file.

I've got it quite a bit shorter than the other side by using 1:24 model switches and letting the V-crossings get as close as possible. It will be tricky to build them though:

Seems to be getting to the stage mentioned on the RMweb with the German style Baesler double slip. Difficult to build.

Maybe William would be better off building the whole thing himself from Templot, it may be easier.

Roy, you're not wrong - I decided that to fit this geometry into the space required with the angles required was just asking for trouble, so I'm revisiting this idea at a later date with a fully hand laid throat.
