Hi all, i have been busily desiging and i have started construction of my new layout, Charlton Bridge, its on RMweb here. You will see that I have printed out and built the upper edge of my oval, about 4.5m long. Now i need to print out the remainder, starting with the oval ends. My preference is to create a pdf from templot and then send the pdf to the printer. This gives me more control over what is happening. My home printer will do A3 and, as far as I can see, won't do endless lengths. I understand how to move the page origins to get the best fit of the track to the pages. But I still appear to be stuck with pages that run left/right and up/down - this can give me lots of wasted pages with just a fragment of template. I can group templates and print out different sections, but i am still left with lots of wasted paper and with my layout, lots and lots of gluing sheets together. I have seen i can get up to A0 printed on line, 70p per black/white sheet, but high postage costs So, really, whats the most efficient and cost effective way of printing this lot out, ideally in sections rather than the whole lot in one go.Box file attached. Thanks Ian |

Hi Ian, Have you tried changing from end-run to side-run for some of the pages? You should be able to avoid most of the wastage. 2_071853_420000000.png Other topics on this subject: topic 3482 topic 3501 cheers, Martin. |

Hi Martin, many thanks for that. I have seen the option, and tried it. What does the menu: output- page origin - multiple output runs do? It has four options, but Im not sure what they do. Thanks again |

ikcdab wrote: What does the menu: output- page origin - multiple output runs do? It has four options, but I'm not sure what they do.Hi Ian, A maximum print "run" in Templot is 858 pages -- 33 pages long by 26 pages wide. The actual layout area this represents depends on the paper size and the printer. At 100% output size, for A4 pages it is about 30ft x 16ft. For A3 it is about 42ft x 24ft. If you have a track plan longer or wider than this, you can use the multiple output runs functions to restart a fresh run where the last one finished, so that the pages join together correctly. You can use the ident prefix setting on the print pages dialog to identify pages from each run. Make sure you have enough ink and paper. Most users with large plans, such as a garden railway, move the page origin to a suitable location on the plan, and print just the few pages needed from there. cheers, Martin. |

Ian, Don't forget its possible to omit pages with no template on, this may save the odd sheet or two. Phil. |

Hi Phil, yes thanks. What I try and do is to adjust the page origin to minimise pages with little or no detail. But I can't move it often as I lose the registration between pages. |

ikcdab wrote: But I can't move it often as I lose the registration between pages.Hi Ian, A trick you can use is to put extra track templates at random places on the plan to act as registration markers. Just because a template is on the plan doesn't mean you have to build it. Straight half-diamonds work well for this as they are all straight lines and numbered timbers. cheers, Martin. |

Hi Martin and all. Is there a way if changing the default PDF page size? My preferred output method is to create a pdf file, but templot defaults to 260 x 180. I print in A3 and so every time i wish to do a pdf i have to change it to 400 x 280. Can i change this default anywhere? Ian |
