There was either on here or another forum a thread about a layouts in or around docks, this picture was shown which caught my eye, I thought it might make a good cameo http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/railway-book-great-eastern-town-1784075504 Its the high level entrance to the London Docks goods depot, would be a bit of a challenge to build, but as I said may make a nice Cameo layout or photo plank The difficulty being the turnout within the trailing crossover, I am struggling a bit with the inset turnout |

As it happens the goods depot would also make an interesting model, not shown on this map but in a map within the book is at least 1 wagon lift, several wagon turntables within the lower level of the depot. And presumably a horse drawn extension across Smithfields into another warehouse and or dock area Having moved to Essex nearly 5 years I am getting used to the disused lines in my area and gaining an interest in the GER. This book seems to be very interesting and I might try and get the other 2 volumes |

Excellent pictures, great detail, descriptive captions, and a wide range of subject matter. The GER in and around London is absolutely fascinating. There are still hints at the infrastructure surviving, if you know where to look. What part of Essex are you in? There are windswept and destitute GER branches across most of it :-) Cheers Paul |

Found most of the remaining structurers, think having a micro brewery in part of Maldon West's good shed is a very apt use As I said I have picked up a couple of GER locos and the turnout complex and setting in the first post looks very promising, may need a bit of modellers licence to make it operationally interesting, but could also be a nice photo plank as well as a small cameo layout |

I have started to read the section about the east end, the trouble I was having was relating the photos to the map, then thankfully I mastered downloading the OS map, looking at the picture on the cover of the book I wrongly assumed the formation was on the curve982_210658_390000000.jpg Where as the entrance to the formation is on a curve, as is both the crossover and turnout |

So here is my version, I think I have got the left hand turnout within the second part of the crossover, and why was it not a slip ? looking at the map in the book it shows a wagon turntable and presumably a wagon lift to ground level The idea is to possibly make a small diorama, with the road bridge being slightly left of centre and perhaps the road being slightly more angled left to right One question is how far from the outside rail would the viaduct wall be |
