Hi all!

Can somebody tell me if there is a possibility to find out the amount of sleepers of a ready to build Templot plan classified into lengths of the sleepers?

I don't think there is.

I was going to write a program that worked it out from a DXF export, but my *real* work has got in the way somewhat. It would output a text/CSV file with the number of sleepers by width and length.

Now that sounds really interesting, George. When it comes to fruition, perhaps you and Martin could be persuaded to make it available as part of the Templot package.

Prototype info in the US usually includes the "bill of materials" (BOM) for each turnout size. I would expect the UK historical documents do the same thing.

However, for drawing purposes, when making my CAD US templates, I also made a sleeper length ruler bar at the end of the turnout, and drew lines along from it mark the end of each size. This allowed me to just extend each sleeper out to the correct length by "snapping it to the appropriate line.

Any one who converts the plot to a DXF (CAD file) could easily do the same and count the number of sleepers ending at each ruler line.

I wouldn't hold you breath Brian - it's probably a lot easier if Martin added the feature right into Templot, rather than my two stage process.

If I do get time to have a look, I'll post my results here.

Richard.
