All, I have spent odd moments this week evaluating my membership of E Groups. With the high flow rates of email traffic on some, it is easy to forget that others are extremely quiet. One group of which I am a member and value highly, has only received 2 emails so far this year. (Its 'high point' was in 2004, when it received a staggering 49 emails)! Another has never 'clocked up' 100 emails in a year. I am happy with this because for me, I judge the value of any Group not on the day to day traffic - much of which is of no interest, but the confidence that if I ask a question, there will be one or more folk who can provide an authoritative answer. There appears to be a cautious move towards manufacturer based Groups - TCS and Templot are examples of this. Dealing in fairly narrow bands, they are certain to appeal to users of these products - indeed I would suggest that nobody is ever going to get the full potential of Templot without constant reference to the Templot Forum. This has set me thinking. For here at C&L, we receive daily, questions and suggestions from beginners and experienced users alike. Some are so interesting - ingenious even, that we are sure that other modellers would find value in sharing them. So yesterday I set up a new Yahoo Group - Finescale. The span of modelling subjects includes, but is not limited to, Trackwork, Scratch building and kit construction, Soldering, Metal Blackening, Surface preparation - most things in fact that are going to help us build better models. We want this group to be small, friendly, informative and above all responsive to your needs. So, if you feel you have something to learn, or have much to offer regarding the use of our products, we invite you to join. Here are the details on finescale: Group home page Group email address Have a good weekend. Regards Brian Lewis Carrs -- C+L Finescale |
