Martin After a week next to the Festiniog on holiday I have decided to use some old 7mm sleepers along with some peco code 82 fb rail and Pandorail chairs to make some track. (I was the one taking as much interest in the track as the locos). Ok some of the track was spiked others had vairying forms of chairs but I have to start somewhere. I have followed your customising narrow gauge tutorial, whilst the Festiniog is 2' gauge I am going to use 16.5mm instead of 14mm. All has gone well except the sleepers are a bit short either side of the rail, initially I thought it might be because I have increased the gauge by 2.5mm but they probably need about 2mm extra each side. As I followed your tutorial step by step without understanding too much of what I was dooing could you assist please. Also should there be sound, as there are pauses in movement which leads me to the fact that I am missing the commentary. Thanks John |

You can set any length you like, but 4ft-6in (54") is common for narrow-gauge. If you are feeling brave you can add a bit of randomising for narrow-gauge timbering. Also should there be sound, as there are pauses in movement which leads me to the fact that I am missing the commentary. No, the video is silent. The gaps are where you can hear me thinking! We've discussed a spoken commentary before. It would make a more polished production, but it's a massive time-consuming task to produce a synchronised text. I just don't have the time to do it, sorry. It also makes it impossible to edit the video later. Also, when repeating short sections of it several times and moving one frame at a time, a sound track is a distraction and should be turned off. What the videos do need is far more synchronised written notes on the screen, explaining what's happening. I have decided to swap to Flash format so that I can do that, although I just know some folks will end up in a tangle with browser plug-ins and so forth. I wrote a custom video player for the Templot videos based on Windows Media Player, but there seems to be a problem in Vista with that, and users with ATI graphics cards had problems with it too. Also there are now quite a few Mac users running Templot, and a change to the Flash format will allow the videos to be watched in native Mac mode. regards, Martin. |

Hayfield wrote: Martin found the problem, template was off the pageHi John, Thanks for reporting back. However, this is a bug -- nothing you do should ever cause Templot to shut down. It will be fixed next time. More about it at: topic 406 - message 2341 regards, Martin. |

I'm looking for a little help with a TEMPLOT I'm building, please. Some have been aided by my 32mm gauge/16mm scale TEMPLOT work, but being based on UK standards, the work was mostly scaling, not adjusting. Now however..., I'm attempting to build a 2.5" scale TEMPLOT of a D&RGW 36" gauge 'switch'. I have a drawing of 'a' prototype switch that I've scaled up to 2.5" scale as a BG Image, and have created a TEMPLOT where everything except the 'wing rails' are correct..., there is my problem. I must be thick..., 'cause I can't seem to get the wing rails moved around to the right position or length. Would someone (WAY more capable them I) like to explain how to do this..., or maybe do this..., ? I can send all files on request. Thanks, Zoë |

Actually..., right after I posted the question, I decided to pump up my courage and dove into the program again. After surprisingly few mistakes..., I was able to get the TEMPLOT to match (pretty well) the D&RGW drawing..., screwed up tie spacing and all. So..., here it is, track and BG files. |
