I know how to align templates over each other on the main roads but how do you align a template over the turnout road of another template? Alan |

If the to-be-aligned template will fit within the length of the turnout curve on the underlying turnout (the distance from the heel of the switch to the start of the V-crossing entry-straight, indicated by the radial end markers), you can do this: Delete to current/control on the underlying template, put the fixing peg on the switch heel, or on CESP (for regular V-crossings), or on TCP (for generic and curviform V-crossings). geometry > peg positions > menu items. Put the notch under the peg. geometry > notch >. Make a note of the "resultant turnout radius" for the underlying template. store & background. Get the to-be-aligned template as the current/control template. Set the curving radius to the radius you just noted. Peg the template onto the notch. Snake it to the desired position (CTRL+F6) and/or swap facing/trailing. Some final tweaking to the exact radius may be needed (zoom in, then F6). 2. If the to-be-aligned template is longer than the length of the turnout curve on the underlying turnout (the distance from the heel of the switch to the start of the V-crossing entry-straight), it is not possible to get an exact match to the underlying template. You can get an approximate match like this: If the to-be-aligned template won't extend past the fine-point of the V-crossing, do this: Copy to current/control on the underlying template, put the fixing peg on CTRL+1 and then extend some approach track (F3). Click tools > make split > make plain track turnout road > on internal geometrical radius menu item. store & background. Align the new template over the plain track template which you just stored, in the usual way. Finally delete the two unwanted plain track templates. If the to-be-aligned template extends past the fine-point of the V-crossing, use the external geometrical radius instead. (The substitution radius). In this case the match to the underlying template may be only approximate. p.s. These sorts of questions are much easier to answer if you say what you are actually trying to do.  My guess is that you are inserting a set of catch points in a turnout, but you didn't say.  regards, Martin. |
