Background Commands

Is it possible to draw a line, using the mouse, at a certain angle (e.g. 35 deg) to another line already drawn on the Background? I have a feeling I have done this before but I do not know how!

Incidentally, the reason for asking; I want to produce a template for cutting irregular baseboard shapes.

Regards,

John M

Hi John,

No, sorry, there is no easy way to do this directly on existing shapes. :(

However, there is a nifty trick you can use to create complex outline drawings in the background shapes.

Create your baseboard outlines using dummy plain track templates. Export them as a DXF file, and then re-import the DXF file into the background shapes.

Set them up as geometry > track centre-lines only templates. You have all the usual track design functions to create curved baseboard edges, transition curves, peg templates together, shift and rotate them, whatever. :)

For example in this case you would join the two templates in line, and then with the peg at the join do geometry > shift/rotate > rotate template by... .

Or use the notch settings for precise positioning at known co-ordinates and angles -- geometry > notch > set notch position and angle... . You can turn the notch angle by known amounts using the # prefix in the data-entry (i.e. modify by, instead of replace).

It would probably be better to switch off F7 snapping while creating baseboard corners using F7.

regards,

Martin.
