Hi, I have just returned to Templot after a long pause and made a start at relearning old, as well as discovering new, facilities. A real sea change. However. After an enjoyable initial charge into track laying again I came across an oddity that interests me but gives no real trouble otherwise. After playing around I had saved and shut down. When I restarted and reloaded there was the saved layout but I noticed that the storage box heading was now "Town Central" and not "Yelverton run round" as saved (I thought). After several attempts at retitling to no avail I thought to simply delete the "Town Central" file from the Storage Box. Upon restart I discover that although the "Town Central" file is definitely in the Recycle Bin not among the box files yet the name heads the box file as still "storage box for Town Central" whilst claiming that it was "last reloaded from C:\TEMPLOT\BOX-FILES\Yelverton...bla ! bla!  What have I done/assumed wrongly this time? As I state, it's of no consequence in the scheme of things what-so-ever merely interesting me, Regards, Donald |

You haven't changed your project title in Main> Program Panel...> Session >Project title. Then it should save as you want it. Richard |

Hi Donald, Despite Microsoft's best efforts to confuse the issue, a file name is a symbol for a string of binary data -- it's not the title of the document it contains. If indeed it contains a document at all, which Templot data files do not. Titles typically include spaces and punctuation. Symbolic file names don't -- or at least not if you want them to work reliably on all computers everywhere and on the internet. While working on a project in Templot you can give the Storage Box a title (it is currently "Town Central" by default, or "Tunnel Junction" in earlier versions), and every template in a Templot data file includes a note of the Storage Box title from which it was saved. As Richard explained you can change that title by going to the session > project title... menu item on the Program Panel (formerly Control Room) window, or by going to the edit > box title... menu item on the Storage Box window (both do the same thing). When you are saving a data file, Templot uses that title to suggest a file name modified from it, and adds the current date and time. If you choose to use a different file name, that's up to you. It doesn't change the title of the Storage Box. When you reload ("replace and load") templates from a data file into the Storage Box (but not when you merely add them), Templot changes the Storage Box title to match the first template loaded. regards, Martin. |

Hallo Martin, Sorry for time lapse in replying to your information. I have it before me and in my customary method of overcoming hitherto unused features I will flog on through relearning the template manipulation for now which is proving a real new revelation. I will then run/rerun your instructions to do the identification 'according to Hoyle'. At present it is running somewhat 'Jury Rigged'. Fine for the moment tho'.
