Dear all, The Templot chat room has been available for a couple of years, but it has seen minimal use. This might be because a) it's not wanted, or b) no-one knows it's there. To find out which, I've put it in a panel at the bottom of each topic page, as you may have noticed below this. If it is still not being used after a month or two, I will scrub it entirely. To enter the chat room, you need to enter a name to identify yourself, a colour in which your name will appear, and the room password. Your browser can remember these details, so all that is needed next time is to click the "Enter Room" button. The password is easily found. It's shown in the left column on your profile page at: My Account. Alternatively, in Templot, click the tools > metric / scale calculator menu item. The password is the word on a green background (all in lower case). For more information about the chat room, click: Templot chat room info . regards, Martin. |

Martin I definitely want it scrubbed. I noticed today at lunchtime that I was getting 'access denied - inappropriate content - chat'. Not as bad as the whole of http://www.templot.com which is totally banned by work. But get too many access denied hits and personnel come and have a one way chat. Richard |

However I have now replaced the embedded chat room with an indirect link. This means it now takes two clicks to enter the chat room, but it prevents the chat room window from pulling the page focus. This should also cure your "access denied" problem. regards, Martin. |

Martin Thanks for trying, but it still gives the access denied problem. Oh well, I'll have to browse other hobby websites at lunchtime and save Templot for the evening. Richard |

I was escorted over to HR by Security a while back (at HR's orders) to be "interviewed". Nothing to do with computers either. They were just playing pointless "King of the Castle" silly games. The message seems clear, so I'm minded to go ahead and scrub it. It seems a shame to close down a potentially useful communication channel, but if it's not wanted...  Perhaps the Chatzy format is wrong? There is other chat room software which could be more closely integrated with Templot Club, using the same login and user names. Hi MartinPerhaps the Chatzy format is wrong? There is other chat room software which could be more closely integrated with Templot Club, using the same login and user names. If I installed some such, would anyone use itI think people here are just not the chat room type! I bet not many of us have accounts with Faceblog or Tweeter or whatever they're called either! Personally, I'm quite happy to just keep an eye on the forum emails and wait for a reply to any questions. Cheers |

I'm quite happy to just keep an eye on the forum emails and wait for a reply to any questions.My thought originally was that waiting for a detailed reply might be a bit frustrating if you are in the middle of Templot and not sure whether to click something right now. Tapping another user on the shoulder and getting a quick yes or no might be preferable to preparing a proper question which will remain in the Club database for ever. But apparently not. For a long time I've had a note on the chat room: "If there is no-one else here, why not post a message on Templot Club forum inviting others to join you." But as far as I can remember, no-one has ever posted such a message. Members have occasionally looked in to the chat room, found no-one there, and gone away again. Then participants can arrange to be there at the appropriate time if they are interested. I don't think there are enough UK model railway enthusiasts around on the Internet to populate chat rooms such that there will be at least two people around at any one time to start up a conversation. Martin, I would tend to agree with Jim and others about the Chat Room. I think that it might be useful in another format, and maybe a monthly clinic type format, but I think a more productive use of time might be monthly webinars where you could demo features and give mini tutorials where us users could ask questions in real-time? or something similar, I know this has been discussed before. Normally questions on here get answered pretty quickly anyway, so the chatroom has no real advantage. The ones I have been in tend to have alot of superfluous chatter on and seem to distract users from the real topics. Just my tuppence worth Regards Tom |

If someone was to set up such a thing I would be happy to join in. But I really wouldn't want to be the one to organise and present a webinar -- it clearly demands a lot of preparation time and I'm fully stretched at the moment. Also, looking at the web conferencing sites it's very expensive and would have to be charged for. What users do between themselves is clearly up to them, but there is no way I'm ever going to charge for any Templot user support. The purchase price of Templot is for the software licence ONLY. Support is free and only available as-is. regards, Martin. |

Hi Martin, Yes I understand your time is limited and is focused on R&D so completely understand that you don't want to go down that route. I personally think the videos you provide have been the most help to me and others. I guess all these other modes of communications are a drain on your time!
