Hi, I've got a little problem which is certainly my finger trouble!

I seem to have got the information panel stuck at the top of the screen with its title bar off the top, so I can't drag it down.

I've no idea how I got it like that.

I've tried the following:

- F2 off and on again
- Exit Templot and reload, but whenever I load my box file (or any recent one), it ends up stuck off the screen again.
- Alt-space doesn't work because the main Templot window seems to get the focus
- Change size of main window, drag top of main window, even enable a second screen above the main window and drag it up onto second screen, still information panel sits with its title bar off the screen.
- I can drag the bottom of the information panel down and make it bigger, so I can see the bottom part of the information panel, starting from about where the shrink button is

Is there an ini file or something where I can poke a correct window position before reloading templot?

It's frustrating because if I make the information panel bigger so I can at least see some of it, it is then sitting on top of the toolbars top left.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete,

That's very odd. A restart of Templot should always start the same, and I can't think of a setting in a box file which could affect this. Which version of Templot?

This kludge should move it down:

main > program panel (or control > control room)

on that window, program > expert > data distortions > mirror x

then program > expert > data distortions > cancel all menu items.

If you are using multiple monitors, make sure the primary monitor is left-most / top-most.

Please let me know which version of Templot. Thanks.

regards,

Martin.

Thanks Martin, that fixed it!

Templot version is 0.91c.

My secondary monitor has to be on the left, it's an old heavy 21" CRT and there's only room for it on the left corner of the desk where I can't sit directly in front of it. I sit in front of the nice 19" TFT.  I've only still got the CRT because I don't think I could carry it down the stairs!

I only use the secondary for reference stuff - when using Templot I might have the video or tutorials etc on that. I generally tell templot just to use the primary monitor.

I suspect the problem occurred when transferring stuff between my laptop and the desktop PC. I synchronise the two templot directories. Are there some files I should exclude from that synchronisation?

Thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the details.

If possible, try to arrange the two monitor rectangles in the DisplayProperties so that their tops are level with each other. Otherwise I think you may need to use the kludge every time you start Templot.

There are no files you can change or exclude which will affect this. Sorry.

I changed the code for multiple monitors and it seems I need to look at it again. I will also add an emergency button to put everything in the middle of the pad. :)

regards,

Martin.

Thanks for the advice, Martin.

I can certainly put the tops level in the settings on my desktop PC.

On the laptop, I tend to have my small 10" laptop screen in front of me so I can type on it, and then if I have an external screen connected it sits behind the laptop, still in front of me. So it is logical then to have the external screen above the main one in the settings.

Depending, I think, on the order I connect and configure it, the external monitor sometimes ends up as the primary and sometimes as the secondary screen. Templot works fine maximised to the external monitor, using the laptop screen for reference stuff.

I was working away from home the other week, and the hotel I stayed in had really large 40" flat screen TVs in the rooms. It had a VGA input so I connected it up as an external monitor to my laptop. Templot worked fine, and looked quite impressive on 40"!

Here is a little pic of the setup. The pic is only low quality as I took it with my mobile phone.

Pete

Just an update, Martin.

Whilst the mirror x workaround reliably fixes the problem, when I reload Templot from scratch it still comes up every time with the info panel off the screen.

This happens whether or not I reload a box file. So I have to do the mirror x workaround every time I load Templot.

Very strange - but I can live with it now I have a workaround.

Hi Pete,

Yes, I mentioned that would happen. :(

It's caused because you have a second monitor, which is set with its top more than 50 pixels above the top of the monitor on which Templot is displayed.

If you adjust the monitor rectangles so that the tops are level, or Templot is on the higher one, (i.e. re-arrange them in the Display Properties) the problem will be cured.

Thanks for reporting this. I have changed the code now for the next pug. :thumb:

Martin.

Hi Martin,

In fact my second monitor (with a lower resolution, only 1024x768) which is on the left, had its top below that of the primary monitor (resolution 1280x1024).

I am displaying Templot on the primary, larger, one of the two.

In fact, the secondary was centred so its top was below and its bottom above the primary.

I've now moved the secondary up so the tops are level and, as you say, that has fixed the problem.

Thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete,

I'm glad it's fixed the problem, but I don't understand what was happening! I have an identical setup when I use multiple monitors, and I can only reproduce the problem by moving the top of #2 above #1.

But fixed is fixed, so on to the next problem... :)

Thanks for letting me know. I've changed the code for the next pug, so it won't happen again.

regards,

Martin.
