Hi everyone: I was given Templot for Xmas. It is summer in NZ, and I have only now turned my attention to the learning curve. My interest is modern German DB in N fiNe (similar standards to 2mm but using 9mm gauge). Evening ONE, and I already have a problem. Tried to create a length of straight track using custom rail length and sleeper spacing. Rail is 45m long, but when I started adding sleeper spacings it only accepted 49 (of 69) before closing down the entry screen. In Drawing Pad, I can see the rails shown to length, but only 70% of each length has sleepers. Have I struck a limit, or as I expect am I doing something wrong. can anyone help! thanks; MalcolmE, Wellington, New Zealand |

Hi Malcolm, Welcome to Templot Club. I'm afraid you have hit a limit within Templot -- the maximum number of sleepers per panel of jointed track is 49, as you found. Could you provide a bit more detail about the prototype track? Jointed track with rail lengths of 45 metres (148 ft) seems unusual. Presumably they are sliding expansion joints of some sort? You would need to create these rail lengths as partial templates. After creating the track plan with sleepers missing in each track panel, an additional template can be aligned and snaked over each plain track template to provide the missing sleepers. If this is long-welded rail with constant sleeper spacing, the way to do that is to turn off the rail joints -- real > plain track options > rail joint marks > none menu item. Then create a custom plain track setting with a dummy "rail length" which is equal to the sleeper spacing, and have a single sleeper spaced at half that distance from the dummy "joint". If you can provide some actual dimensions for the sleeper spacings and details of the joints, we may be able to suggest other ways of doing it. regards, Martin. |

thanks Martin Sourcing accurate proptotype information on German railways is somewhat difficult from here, but my info is that post war the DB used rail lengths of 30m, 45, 60 and more recently 120m along with so called continuous rail. Wooden sleepers are 2600 long x 260mm wide, spaced on about 650mm centres on main lines (up to 800mm on branch lines), closed right up under rail joints. These joints are by 4 or 6 hole fishplates. I notice these lengths are significantly longer than the standard ones in the drop down box. Perhaps the Germans mostly built their track up on site, rather than delivering prebuilt sections to site. Delivering prebuilt sections of track of 60 or 120m would be somewhat difficult I would have thought. regards MalcolmE |
