Martin, I am currently working on drawing the trackwork for the relaying of Slattocks Junction. I have drawn the baseboards and also have a couple of very large scans of the existing trackwork. I've managed to get by with setting the scans to transparent on occasion so that I can see the baseboards through them but it would be very useful if there was an option to turn individual shapes off. For example I may want to display the baseboards but not the scans of the existing track. I'm not particularly bothered by the ability to group shapes but being able to toggle display of a shape on and off would be great. Andy |

I will look at adding it. Thanks for suggesting it. You can of course turn the whole lot off and on -- pad > pad background options > hide background shapes menu item. The intended solution to your problem is to put the shapes in several different .bgs files. Say the baseboard outlines in one file, and each of the picture shapes in a file of their own. Then you can load as many of them at a time as you need -- using the add file... button on the background shapes dialog. So to toggle an individual picture shape off and on you would simply delete it, and then load it back again using add file. Also this way you can control whether the picture shapes are in front of or behind the baseboard outlines. The most recently loaded shape(s) will be on top. There's another nifty trick for numerate users -- scale an individual shape by 1% to effectively make it unobtrusive. Then later scale it back again by 10000% (that's 4 zeroes) to return it to its original size. Select the shape in the list, then click the modify shape: > scale by... button each time. Take care not to inadvertently save a .bgs file with the shrunk sizes, otherwise you may have a temporary panic when you next load it! regards, Martin. |

Martin, Thanks for the workarounds. I've had a play over lunch and separated the box file into two, one with boards and one with scans. This gives me greater flexibility, however, once both files were loaded I then used the scaling method to 'remove' the scans as it wasn't possible to close just the scan box. Andy |
