Here's another embedded Scribd document -- slightly more relevant. This looks to be a useful alternative to attaching PDF and DOC files -- this way they are viewable directly in the message. And the controls are neat -- much simpler than launching the full PDF reader plug-in, or launching Word. I liked the "Tiled" option button to display the page thumbnails, and the simple highlighted search results. You need to sign up and log in on Scribd in order to upload documents (it's free). (Provided you are logged in you can also download the files as normal PDF if you prefer. Click the More > Document Info menu item, then the Title: link to open the full Scribd page, and then click the Download tab.) Martin. |

I had a look at the site but couldn't find my way in 'Search'. For example...put "Great Western Railway" in advanced search (exact words) and the result came back with mostly Australian content! Am I missing something? Michael. |

The in-document search works only on the normal paged view, not on the tiled page thumbnails. As you enter text in the search box it is simultaneously highlighted in the text: scribd_doc_search.png This document isn't yet showing in the Scribd site search because I uploaded it only yesterday, and like all Google indexing it takes a few days to show up. However, putting "Great Western Railway" (in quotes) in the Scribd site search, produced several GWR results, this being the second result in the list: regards, Martin. |

Hi Martin, I was trying to use the advanced search but doing it your way with quotes works. Thanks Michael. |

I have created some resizing buttons, which make these Scribd documents much more user friendly. You can enlarge them for convenient reading on your screen size. YouTube videos can be resized too. It was a hassle to get the buttons to work in all browsers, and it's not yet ready to put on here, but you can see the idea on this page: http://www.templot.com/odds/hm5_scribd The Scribd viewer doesn't handle the mouse wheel properly for scrolling -- both the document and the web page scroll at the same time, which is very annoying. However, you can just drag the image around with the mouse (as on Google maps and Templot drag panning), so there is no need to use the wheel. regards, Martin. |
