This is rather good. :)

I created a very large pdf file (3200mm x 500mm) and was surprised to find it uploaded to Scribd without any problems. This could be a very useful way of displaying track plans here on Templot Club.

This is the CJF plan which Raymond Walley prepared for Paul Hamilton. Here it is as a PDF file, uploaded to Scribd. To see the detail, zoom in and scroll around by grabbing and dragging the image.

I see it needs a bit more work on the slip to shorten the K-crossing check rails.

Later I will add some buttons to these forum pages so that these Scribd documents (and YouTube videos) can be resized if you wish to better fit your own screen size.

If you read this by email and click the link, I think you will see it full screen, which isn't much different from using Adobe Reader or Foxit reader normally. But here's the link if you wish to try it:  CJF plan

regards,

Martin.

That's really quite effective Martin. I am hoping to have the full size plan printed at my work on the roll printer. I can't work out exactly what you did to turn a box file into this format.

The latest box file for my layout is attached to this message (slip issue totally rectified - MR even with their flush coffers would not have had a slip of any kind installed on such an out of the way Peak District branch line such as mine).

Let me know what I need to do.

Hi Paul,

I used my development version of Templot. :) PDF output will be available in a future version of Templot - see:

  topic 753

At present in 091c you would need to "print" to a virtual printer PDF generator such as pdf995 or Win2PDF. That works fine, but creating large custom paper sizes can be a bit tricky.

Your pdf file attached below. It's 500mm wide by 3200mm long. It should open in Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader. Make sure to select "No Scaling" when printing it.

It takes me only a minute to do, so feel free to post any updated files for the same treatment.

regards,

Martin.

Thanks for that Martin, my pdf writer only went to A3 so thanks for this. Its off to the printer now and it whould be printed on a roll.

One thing I noted is that about half way down the sleeper letters and numbers stopped. Is that because the PDF missed them or the reader I used is faulty?

Very powerful facility for the next version of Templot. Look forward to it. I am most pleased to be able to do this myself. I wrote the print file to the pdf creator and saved it and then opened through parallels to print it out. Works well and fast!

Hi Paul,

Timber numbering is showing ok here in both Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader, so it looks to be a problem with your reader, or insufficient memory on your system.

I do notice that there seems to be a problem with the positioning of the timber numbers -- some are overlapping and obscuring part of the end of the timber. They should be transparent -- I will look into that.

regards,

Martin.

Cheers for that,

Raymond has done some more shoving and tweaking shall we say and the latest file is on its way.

Printed out the file and it looks quite good at full size. Positioned a loco on the head shunt to see that it would be enough room etc.

I will have another go at downloading the pdf file from home. It definitely decided to put all the remaining timber numbers over the top of each other and likewise on the machine the fellow used to pirnt it out on aswell. I am sure this will be resolved. Very nice to have the benefit of the colours too. Really helps to identify the various components.

Here are some snaps of the printed out version on my living room floor last night. You can make out most of the elements from these snaps I think. Remember this is 3300mm x 500mm so it flows quite well I reckon. Not bad for a CJF plan I think!

The loco is a Bachmann Jubilee I picked up yesterday from the LHS when I walked in to buy a piece of brass rod from the K&S Stand - never did pick up the rod either!

Hi Martin,

I have attached the latest and likely to be final version upon review of A3 copies provided by Raymond in the post.

As such, I am planning to send this box file to be laser cut and have 2 full size roll print outs done to use as templates etc.

Could I ask you to create a pdf of the attached and re-post as per previous?

Many thanks,

Paul.

Thanks for that Martin,

The same issue as last time has occured for me in so much as the sleeper numbering stops about half way down the page again. Does this happen for any one else who has downloaded it for a look?

Hi Paul,

Do you mean that the timber numbering is missing on the screen view, the print, or both?

If it is only the print, try changing to a lower printer resolution. 300dpi is plenty adequate for a track construction template.

regards,

Martin.

Hi,

I've just downloaded the pdf and timber numbering looks just fine throughout. I'm using Adobe Reader 8 - OS is MS XP.

By the way, I shall be adding some photos of some 4mm scale Midland Railway signals in LMS/BR period to my website soon (either later today or tomorrow I think) if you are interested.

Paul,

I can see all of the sleeper numbering on the screen. I am using Adobe Reader 9 with Vista Home Premium.

I did not try to print it. If printing is the problem I will give it a try. I can get the length but only 13 inches wide using my HP K8600 with a home made roll feeder.

Sorted the issue. Whatever version of Adobe reader work uses it was unable to cope and would get half way down compiling the image and then put all the rest of the text onto one line over the top of each other.

When I downloaded it at home on my Mac, no problems.

Thanks for that.

Having reviewed the full size plans in considerable detail there are some minor changes that need to be made to the sidings predominantly. I realised that there is no where near enough space for an island platform between the two passenger tracks and there was a suggestion that the upper passenger platform track should be extended to the end of the layout to suggest that it goes on elesweher and have an overhead station building which I like the idea of. Also it allows for expansion to the layout when I move house again in the coming year or two.

I have made these suggestions to Raymond who hopefully can incorporate the revisions before the file goes to laser cutting. Very exciting now, I am funnily enough looking forward to making my own plain track too!
