Dear all, It's now 6 months since Templot Club moved to web hosting in Columbus, Ohio, under the watchful care of Jim Hale at Data 1 Systems. Generally it has been a great success, with none of the occasional database errors and backup problems which we used to get before. The only errors have been those perpetrated by yours truly. However, UK connection speed has not always been as fast as it might be, and there was one weekend when many UK members lost connection entirely for a couple of days. Jim is now suggesting that we move down the road to a different data centre in Columbus with faster and more reliable connections to the UK. My tests have indicated a significantly faster connection, but before I say yes, I would like to be sure that everyone will be able to access the new server and with good connection speed. Can I ask you all therefore to try clicking this link. It is another UltraBB forum on the same server which we would be on if we move: http://www.thesongwritersforum.com If that comes up quickly without problems, fine, no need to do anything. If it doesn't, please try again later and if you still have problems please reply to this with a few details -- where you are in the world, internet provider, which browser, broadband or dial-up, etc., and the exact words of any error messages you see. Many thanks. regards, Martin. |

I'm using XP Home SP3, Firefox 3.0.11 and Orange. Cheers for now John, from St Ciers 33820 |

Well it works fine with Internet Explorer. I wonder if it's something to do with the anti-virus program though I don't understand why it works with one browser and not the other. Only about 2 hours away on the N10 according to Google Local, John! |

Dave Summers wrote:No need to do anything?Hi Dave, Folks just trying to be helpful. No harm done, eh? Thanks for all the feedback. Tracing to Data 1 Systems server 6 on XL is slightly slower this morning, but still much faster than server 3 on JTL. So I think we will go ahead with this move one night soon, when Jim has time. Templot Club may be off the air for an hour or two during the night, but should be back by morning. In theory it could take up to 3 days for the changed DNS to update worldwide, but usually it takes only a few hours. If you do have trouble getting back to Templot Club, try refreshing the page (press F5 in your browser), or look for messages on the Yahoo group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/templot regards, Martin. |

Dear all, A few weeks ago I wrote: So I think we will go ahead with this move one night soon, when Jim has time. Templot Club may be off the air for an hour or two during the night, but should be back by morning. In theory it could take up to 3 days for the changed DNS to update worldwide, but usually it takes only a few hours. This change got delayed a bit while Jim installed a new higher capacity server in the data centre. It's now all set to go live, so you may find that Templot Club is off the air for a few hours some time in the next few days. Apologies for any inconvenience -- please try again later. regards, Martin. |

Dear all, Apologies for the long down-time while Templot Club moved to the new server. It's now up and running, and if you can see this you are connected to it. You should hopefully be seeing improved speed and response times on Templot Club in future. First there was a problem getting the nameserver changed, and now I have had to come on via slow dial-up on a different ISP to switch the site back on, because my usual provider seems to update their DNS system only when they feel like it. Thanks again for your patience today. regards, Martin. |

Dear all, Hopefully everyone is now seeing Templot Club on the new server, although in theory it can take up to 3 days for all DNS systems to update worldwide. That seems a ridiculously long time when data can wizz round the planet in a fraction of a second. The Data 1 Systems brand new hi-tech server is in the data centre at 826 Morrison Rd, Columbus, Ohio, USA. Jim has put in a lot of work to make it run smoothly for us. Thanks Jim. Click to see the Data Centre You can see Jim's van on the right. If you drag the map across to the the bottom left, you will find some nice parkland and a golf course, where we can go and relax while Jim slaves over the hot server inside the building. Martin. |
