Dear all,

As you know I occasionally make Jing videos in response to questions on here. They are a bit slow and clunky compared with the proper Camtasia videos, and there is no means to edit them. But they are very quick and easy to do, and the whole system is free, and easy to use.

I've recently been looking at my collection of Jing videos on screencast.com , and I was surprised to see just how many there are! :)

So I have changed the permissions on my Jing folder to "public", and now anyone can go there and watch all of them. They are untitled apart from the date, so even I don't know what each one is about without watching it. :(

Here's the link:

regards,

Martin..

Hi Martin,

Good videos, showing tips etc. A description of each would make life easier, however I guess lack of spare time prevents you from doing this.

Hi Max,

They were done quickly in response to a specific topic on here, so didn't need captions at the time.

Now of course, I can't remember what each one is without actually playing it and cross-referencing the date with the topics on here. Which does take time, as you say. I will try to get some captions added to all of them eventually.

The main tutorial video list is at:

  http://www.templot.com/martweb/video_list.htm

but even that is not fully up-to-date with some recent ones. :(

You can find them all by going to:

 http://85a.co.uk/forum/search.php?s=1&q=video

but that produces 160 matches! :)

regards,

Martin.

All

I have compiled a descriptive list of all of the Jing files contained in Martin's folder.

It is attached below.

(A copy also resides in the Templot Group Files section on Yahoo, named 'Jing List.pdf' )

I have extracted from the relevant forum messages sufficient text to hopefully put the video in context as a brief title is not easy to ascribe in many cases.

The file is in .pdf format and clicking on the contained Screencast and other links should work to open your browser window and to load the Jing video and display other forum links.

If anyone has any problems with the file or would like to suggest changes or improvements then please let me know.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your kind words. :)

There isn't an easy way to download the Jing videos directly from the Jing web site.

However, I have now also uploaded most of them (.swf Flash files) to the Templot web site, see:

 http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/jing/

If you right click on each one there and select Save Target As... or Save Link As... you should be able to download the .swf file to your own computer.

Then if you later open the .swf file in your browser (File > Open File... menu item) the video should play, without needing an internet connection. Like most things, this works better in Firefox than Internet Explorer, where you may have to click away some security warnings.

Alternatively if you left click on each one in the above list they should play in your browser directly from the Templot web site. This is an alternative to playing them from the Jing site with the usual links.

I say "should play" because this depends on having an up-to-date version of the Adobe Flash plug-in (Flash Player 10) in your browser, which will play .swf files at the correct size without the usual supporting embed code. Earlier versions of the Flash Player may not play the file, or may severely distort it to fit the full browser window. They need the file embedded on a full web page.

To get the latest Flash plug-in -- http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

The difficulty of course is that most of the Jing videos listed there are identified only by the Jing code numbers. Dave Summers very kindly created a PDF list of the Jing videos with links for playing them online from the Jing site, but unfortunately it is difficult to correlate from those links to the relevant code number file names:

 http://85a.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?id=582

When I've got a bit more time to watch them all again, I will rename the files with more meaningful names.

See this topic from the top for more links and notes about the Jing videos:

Martin.
