Hi all. I've got to the point where I am semi-competent with Templot, and I want to start re-drawing an XTrckCad plan in Templot. However I've released that although I know how to shove timbers inside Templot, I have no idea what the end result should look like! In other words, I do not have a source of prototype information for turnout timbering. Now I know Martyn knows almost all of this (seemingly off the top of his head!), but I can't seem to find anything for post-1930's GWR/BR (WR) practice. I'd also be interested in Southern/BR (S) & LSWR practices, but again, I can't seem to find any reliable information! I particularly need to know things which are external to Templot I.e. I can easily change the switch type to a GWR flexible heel semi-curved switch, but did the GWR use square-on timbering? I have a facing cross-over in my plan, and I know the common practice for the GWR was to have four long timbers in the center, but how did they (generally) handle the timbers on the non-crossing ("Main") side? Timbering centralised or ends in-line? So far, I have no idea! Does anybody have any good links for this stuff? I'm assuming others may find it helpful to have good links for other companies & regions, too? |

Have you got the book published by the GW Study Group by David Smith- 'GWR Switch and Crossing Practice'? Also you could try searching on this web site for things you are interested in e.g 'GWR crossing'. cheers Nigel |

No, I haven't got any books (An expense I can't afford at the moment, sadly). I've searched the web with various search terms, but I have to find anything relevant, and that's just for the GWR, let alone Southern or LSWR! What I'd really like to do is assemble a set of links to this sort of information that is available on the Web, as I can't be the only one who has or will look for this sort of information? |
