Hi guys, not had to ask a question for some time, so all is well in the world and the redesign of Eastwood Town is well under way.

I had the original drawings printed off by a CAD company and made the pointwork accordingly.  This particular part of the plan is on three levels, so I cut the plan into sections and all was well.  Unfortunately I had to make a mod to the board with the result that the track dimension between two points increased to 514mm from the dimension of 416mm as shown on the attached pic.

This dimension is important as I've decided to put a double track crossover between the two pairs of tracks (outer pair and inner pair, across a plate girder bridge) and have to do that retrospectively as all the track has been laid.

How can I pick up a particular template and move it to a set dimension?  I've been playing around with F7 and got it as near as damn it, but knowing Martin, I'm sure there is a much easier way.....

Hi Gordon,

I'm not entirely clear what you are trying to do. If you move a template the way you suggest it won't match up with the existing tracks? :?

If you want a template spaced exactly 514mm from the first template in your screenshot, the obvious way would seem to be to set that as the adjacent track spacing, and make double-track from it. Just scrub the old template and make a new one! Or align the old one over the new one, if it's a valuable customized template of some sort.

Alternatively you can shift the control template by a set amount in either the X direction or Y direction (or both at once) by clicking geometry > shift/rotate > shift template by... menu item.

Likewise for one or more background templates, select it/them as a group and then group > shift group by... menu item.

If you want to move at an angle instead of square to the grid, there is a trick you can use for background templates. I will make a bit of Jing video rather than try to explain it in words.

Not sure if this has answered your question -- if not can you post a bit of .box file to illustrate what you want to do?

regards,

Martin.

Apologies Martin, I'll try again.  I wanted to move the whole double track plus junction across by a set measurement.  I'd had the CAD print done first and when I came to build the boards, increased the width slightly for ease of fitting over my stairwell.  The plan of course was all on one flat sheet, whilst the actual board was split into seperate levels.  So I cut the plan into strips as it were and simply widened the pitch between each pair of running lines.  This meant each pair were built and laid as designed, but with a wider pitch.  No problem at all, but now I want to change something and the original plan is not in line with what I have built.

I want to add to that part of the layout and have designed a double track crossing between the two outer pairs of lines which are at the same vertical level.  I will now have to design and build the new junction from the original plan but will need to move the inner double tracks out by about 50mm or so.

The tracks aren't parallel to each other, over the 8' length of the board, so whilst that is a great idea, may not work in this case.  I have used group select and then group move to slide them over the required distance and eventually did it by using the ruler to find a distance of 514mm and then moving them all at once to that dimension.  It has worked OK, but just wondered if there was a simpler method.  That method wasn't difficult, but hadn't occurred to me when I posted this morning.
