Hi Martin, tried all I know to try and create this crossing on a curve without success.  At present this is simply shown as two overlaid lines of plain track.  I have been experimenting all morning with "insert turnout in plain track" and then "make half diamond".  I had no success with "make diamond crossing" as the angles are different on each side of the crossing and despite my best efforts with the F5 and F6 keys could not get it right.  Then tried duplicating the "half crossing" method and found I could get both sides of the crossing correct at the frog end, but of course ended up with an angle between the two half crossings, rather than the smooth flowing curve.

Can you tell me what the correct order would be to create such a curved crossing?  I guess I'm going down the wrong route with my method.  Of course it all else fails, I could just leave them as two overlaid lines and try to build the junction from the basic templates....;-)

Hi Gordon,

You are trying to create an "irregular diamond" which at present is not directly supported in Templot. For a full discussion see:

 message 1640

The only way to do it is with multiple partial templates. Which is feasible, but a lot of work -- see the example link in the above message.

However, I have a development version of Templot which can do irregular diamonds. If you attach a group .box file containing the relevant area of templates, I will create the diamond for you.

I can't return it as a .box file, because your version of Templot won't be able to handle it. However, I can return it as a .bgs file which you can use instead to print the diamond templates as part of your track plan.

Note to everyone -- I'm happy to do this if you require a simple plain diamond, and I have done several such. But please don't send me a complex station throat or junction requiring multiple irregular diamonds and much timber shoving, as I just don't have the time to do that. Sorry. :(

regards,

Martin.

Thanks for getting back to me Martin.  I haven't got much hair left, but have even less after this mornings fun and games.  :D

Glad to know it wasn't me.....

Many thanks also for your kind offer, but no need to worry at this stage.  I'll keep ploughing through the plan until it is finalised and as I said, if all else fails, I can probably construct the crossing by just printing the overlapping plain tracks and make the rest up using jigs etc.

I'll take a look at the forum post and will certainly look forward to the possible inclusion of irregular diamonds in future releases.

Hi Martin,

Can I ask if you have a time frame for the release of the next version of template?

If it is in the not too distant future, I would be happy to wait to create irregular diamonds myself rather than imposing on your time.

thanks
Richard

Once you've created one irregular diamond with partial templates they are quite easy to do. I don't know if from a "track point of view" the result is "correct prototype practise", but mine looked good to me. And if I can do it, anyone can!

On the big plan, I'll leave all of mine to the end, and then do the lot in one go so that I don't have to relearn how to do it.
