Hi Brian, Even on the same system you end up with continuous development. As I am interested in pre-1930's New South Wales I've been going down the research path for a few years. I now have the information to reproduce track standards from the 1890's to 1970's. But the amount of information and how to use it correctly is daunting. Between the 1890's and 1932 they already had 5 different methods of constructing the crossing in a lead formation. 2 different methods of attaching wing rails and 8 different styles of plate type. You can draw a freehand line by clicking the draw with mouse button and then create an arc as a series of short lines. You can temporarily add a circle as a guide for this, and then delete it afterwards. More about the background shapes here: http://www.templot.com/martweb/gs_bgshape.htm There are a lot of changes in this area in the Templot Development Version (TDV). You are very welcome to join the development group and try it. There is a new sketchboard function within it which implements a full drawing package. Circular or elliptical arcs can be created by adding a full circle or ellipse, and then blanking out the unwanted part by adding further items in front of it. The arc and its blanking items can then be combined into a single item. I'm sorry there is such a confusing mix of Templot versions spread over 10 years development -- 074b, ...

I wonder if making this one aspect "user selectable" might be a way out of your "no win" conundrum? Best Wishes, posted: 3 Aug 2012 21:16 from: Jim Guthrie Martin, Since way back with 0.74 (IIRC) I've always had unwanted copies of templates appearing. I've always tried to find out if it was me doing something wrong and I've developed methods to try and avoid their appearance. For instance, one of them is use Delete to Control as much as possibkle so that only one instance of a template exists. The display state of the template has also indicated where that template is- either on the background or in the control state. With the new behaviour of a copy of a stored template appearing as a control template after storing to background, there is the possibility of that copy being stored again- for instance, doing something else for a short while ...

... interest. I mention this as I have just had a minor disaster- having unconsciously adopted a *Templot way of working*- ie, resoring my last closing poition at startup then just quitting, thus exploiting the "automatic restore function". Unfortunately, I thus allowed the current project to drift away from the last saved version. No Problem of course, until I opened Templot by double clicking on a downloaded .box, then loading that at startup, rather than my previous closing position. Thus, all my last session's developments were 'lost'. Not that I am saying that I don't like this way of working- there are other *disasters* which it has protected me from- just that I allowed myself to develop a very bad habit in the course of using it. All the more frustrating then, when I discovered that the downloaded project was not one of interest after all... ... Martin Wynne Hi Mark, I'm afraid there isn't yet a manual for the sketchboard. This feature has been introduced since the last paid-for version of Templot, and is still a work-in-progress as far as creating the docs for it. I'm really sorry about that. Part of the reason I changed to making Templot free is because I realised the user docs are so far behind the program that it can hardly any longer be called a software product in the normal sense. In effect you have joined a development project rather than downloaded a program. That seems a daft thing to say when Templot has been going for 13 years in public and 20 years before that, but there it is. To make items on the sketchboard appear on the trackpad, tick the show items on trackpad box at the top-left of the sketchboard window, and then close the sketchboard window. They can't be selected or moved about on the trackpad, to do that you must return to the sketchboard. If you want items on the trackpad which ...

Secondly, when adding a platform to the turnout side of a parallel crossing, would it be possible for it to follow the turnout road rather than the turnout side of the main route? The layout is a development of Coleford jnc on the Exeter to Barnstaple route where the Plymouth line diverged. See 2297_200928_040000000.png The up platform will occupy the space between the up main and the goods run round loop/goods line. I'm aware that catch points will need to be added between the double slip and single track Barnstaple line (top left). The curvature throughout on the main lines can be taken as 20 chains. I've checked the track centre dimensions on several close up period pictures of curved sections and the 47.5mm gap which you see between the platforms and through the double junction above appears to be similar. The main lines diverge at the Exeter (right hand) end of the formation to pass through a typical 3 arch stone bridge before entering a twin bore tunnel. This most commonly occurs in a double junction, where a curved diverging route crosses the adjacent track of a straight main route. Such irregular diamonds are in the queue of developments for a future Templot upgrade. In fact the code is already written, and has been for several years.
