I am running Templot v0.74b.
I have just run the Video to do with Overlaying tracks on a rough sketch, a few things puzzled me which I am sure have simple answers.
  1. The drawing pad starts with a small straight in the bottom corner. I assume this pad has been called up from a stored Template. Correct? If so I will no doubt come across how this is done as I dive deeper into Templot.
  2. Early into the video a mouse action is used described as F3/F4 plain-track length. The Templot Function Key Chart I have printed out makes no mention of multiple mouse actions of this nature. Is this from a later version of Templot?
  3. A little later a mouse action described as F10 swell curving straight mm is used. On the Templot Function Key Chart I have printed out F10 is described as preview current.
  4. Now that I have looked closer I realise that the menu bar is very different. I know Martin recommends that beginners like me should stick with 0.74b but if the videos have been created using a later version wouldn't I be better off also using that version to assist with a better understanding of what is being done?

Regards

Hi Ken,

Yes. Upgrade to 091c -- topic 330

You need to start with 074b for two reasons:

1. The static "Track Plan" tutorial doesn't make sense without it.

2. 091c won't run at all without a default printer on the system (074b is more sensible and shows a warning message instead -- this is due to a bug/feature in the later compiler used for 091c).

Once you have worked through the static "Track Plan" tutorial and have printed a few templates, I suggest upgrading to 091c to learn more and watch the videos.

If you don't want to bother with the "Track Plan" tutorial I suggest upgrading to 091c immediately. You can have both versions on your system and use whichever you prefer at any time.

regards,

Martin.

Thanks Martin,
This makes a lot of sense. Obviously I got a bit ahead of myself. I will run through the "Track Plan" tutorial first. The printer is no problem.

Hi Ken,

That particular video is also available in Flash format with additional notes at:

 http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/starter/em_starter.html

In fact it makes an ideal "starter" tutorial for those who don't want to bother with the original static "Track Plan" tutorial, and it uses several of the later functions in 091c.

The original downloaded executable version of the video has been left for those who do not have Flash enabled in their browser.

No, it's the just current/control template. From start-up select template > convert to plain track and geometry > straight menu items.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Ken,

If you look at the bottom of the 074b chart you will see this note:

"To adjust the length of plain track either F3 or F4 can be used."

For a turnout template F3 and F4 are two different functions, but for plain track templates they both do the same thing and you can use either.

Martin.

Hi Ken,

The F10 swell mouse action was introduced in version 0.78.c

It's extremely helpful when aligning templates over a background guide. If you want to do that, it is better to upgrade immediately.

More about F10 at: http://www.templot.com/martweb/pug_info_1.htm

Scroll down to "new F10 swell mouse action" on the left and click the info icon.

regards,

Martin.

Hello Martin,
Thanks again.
This and your other answers have set me straight and given me plenty to think about.
You are of course quite correct, as usual, I simply missed the fine print at the bottom of the chart.
I can see that I will have to pay more attention and not skim any of your documents as important information can come from unexpected places. My excuse here is that the wording is obscured by the document holder I have set it up on.

Regards,

ken
