I'm having a hard time with Templot. It seems such a wonderful thing and I can't wait until I can use it properly, it's the basics I'm struggling with. I have worked along with the track plan video and can copy that in my own work, I can't however use F10 to swell the track. I would like to know how to after adding and positioning a turnout how to add just plain track to it instead of a turnout or simple crossover.

All the best and thanks,

Jason. :)

Hi Jason,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

Which version of Templot are you using? Look in help > about Templot menu item.

The F10 swell function was introduced after version 074b, so if you are still using that version you need to upgrade to version 091c (free) if you want to use F10 -- a full explanation of the difference between these two versions was in my order confirmation letter. To upgrade, see:

 topic 330

Briefly:

to follow the old static tutorials -- stay with 074b until you have finished them.

to follow the videos -- upgrade to 091c and ignore the static tutorials.

The main use for F10 is when aligning track over a background scanned picture shape.

If you have upgraded to 091c and still having trouble with the F10 key itself, you may be using a laptop or multimedia keyboard which needs another function key to be pressed or switched on first. Alternatively, click the action > mouse actions: geometry > swell curving radius menu item instead of pressing keys.

To add plain track to a turnout there are several methods:

1. In 091c simply snap a separate plain track template onto it using F7. This is the simple method for beginners. See:

 http://www.templot.com/martweb/f7_snap_demo.htm

or

2. Extend approach and/or exit track using F3 and/or F4 respectively, then if necessary split them off from the turnout using the tools > make split > menu items. This is the preferred method for established users and will ensure that your pointwork flows nicely through the curves.

3. To add a track to the diverging turnout road, in 091c click the tools > make branch track menu item.

(To do this in 074b you must explicitly use the peg and notch functions, putting the turnout peg on the TVJP position, CTRL-6.)

regards,

Martin.

You can only swell straight or simply curved track. You can't swell track that has a transition in it.
