Hello
Carefully following the Single Slip video I have created something resembling a single slip but I substituted a B8 switch as a starting point.  What appears to have happened is the slip road has overlaid across the original diamond checkrails.  Consequently, I am thinking I have missed something out or have I done something completely wrong.  This could be because I really want a double slip to 1:8 and thought I could cobble something up from a print out of a single slip.  You can tell this from the extended timbering on both sides.  To be honest I have not got a clue of how to go about a double slip.   Any advice would be gratefully received.
Regards
Les

Hi Les,

If you want a 1:8 slip you need to start with a 1:8 diamond-crossing. The one you have there is a 1:6 diamond-crossing, and therefore too short to use the slip switches intended for 1:8.

Even so, you may find that you need to shorten or modify the K-crossing check rails to clear the slip road rails. This is because of the wider than scale GOG-F flangeway gaps. An exact representation of the prototype K-crossings is possible only in S7, P4, etc.

If you are using Templot2, you can modify the check rails to clear at real > adjust check rails... menu item.

Creating a double slip simply means repeating the single-slip instructions, starting from the opposite half-diamond template.

regards,

Martin.

Hi,
I had a quick look at the boxfile and there seems that there may be a slight bug in the current Templot. When I tried to alter it to a 1 in 8 diamond it complained about it being irregular etc. However I overcame this by going back to a turnout and back again.

I haven't altered the K crossing check rails.

Hi Stephen,

The generator for half-diamond templates has been significantly rewritten for Templot2.

I had serious misgivings about using the term "irregular" but several members here persuaded me to stick with it. I felt sure that some users seeing the word "irregular" would assume that it referred to an error condition or bug of some sort.

I will write some more about this shortly, but here is the somewhat shambolic development topic about it:

Perhaps I should explain more fully, when I ignored the warning and tried to create a diamond from the 1 in 8 half-diamond the second part came out at 1 in 5.01! So then went back to basics to create it. If you look at the boxfile you may be able to see the unused templates, if this helps.

Hi Stephen,

Yes I know.

You changed the V-crossing angle but did not change the K-crossing angle, so creating an irregular half-diamond. You then used that to create a full diamond-crossing and Templot correctly created the other half-diamond at 1:5.01 for the V-crossing.

It's not a bug. It is intended to work that way. It would be a bug if it didn't. :)

To change the V-crossing and K-crossing angles simultaneously, use F5 mouse action.

regards,

Martin.

Hi,

Thanks for the explanation. I wouldn't normally try to do it that way of course.

Many thanks for your replies.  Up until now I have been puzzled how I ended up with a 1:6 crossing instead of a 1:8.  It was, of course my mistake.  I had several goes at this running the video tutorial in background.  I believe I must have used the start up template on the drawing pad which is of course a B6 instead of changing it to a B8.
Once again thank you.
Regards
Les
