Greetings all,

I am setting out to create templates for my planned Proto48 layout.  I plan to use American Switch & Signal frog and point castings where possible and I was wondering if anyone had already gained some experience deploying those components with Templot generated templates.  I believe I can do the customization for things like the 11' points but I was hoping somebody had already climbed that learning curve and was willing to share.

If not, I guess it will be me doing the sharing, eventually.

thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Yes, there are some USA style templates available for downloading :) :

These are in H0, but can be converted to Proto48 easily. On the the gauge/scale list dialog (other gauges... menu item), select P-48 and then click the convert group button at the top.

A few things might need tidying up, for example the timber (tie) ends may no longer be set to "in-line".

I don't know how closely these 11ft and 16ft-6in switches (points) match the American Switch & Signal products. If you further customize them, do please upload your files. Bear in mind when customizing, that in Templot and UK/Europe, a "switch" is the moving points section only, not an entire turnout.

regards,

Martin.

Aha! I knew it was there somewhere.  I found the old, dead link to the templot info location in the archives but not that.

11' points are bang on for my needs.

Do I need to adjust something for the straight section through the frog, er, crossing that the castings represent?  I am resolved to use the available #6 frogs where I can although some custom filed ones are just too tempting to avoid altogether.  :-)

I find myself wondering if this is a done problem on the side of the pond where finescale is not a fringe activity.

thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

You need to increase the "V-crossing entry straight".

In version *091c you can do that by mouse action. Click the action > mouse actions: real > adjust V-crossing entry straight menu item. Set the straight section to whatever you need to match your castings. Keep an eye on the effect on the turnout radius.

To change the positions marked for the rail joints to match the straight section, click the real > customize V-crossing > wing rail front.. menu item.

*091c is at: topic 330

regards,

Martin.
