Martin, I am trying to import a DXF file. My problem is that most but not the entire file comes in. This includes some of the lines representing the track. My problem is that I don't really understand what I am doing with the DXF file. I have TurboCAD but don't really know how to use it.  Help appreciated. Alan |

(I know some etching companies don't like CLOSED lines either) [If you think of a square, this can be made up of 4 lines, i.e. (start at 0,0): LINE(1,0), LINE(1,1), LINE(0,1), LINE(0,0). Which Templot would import OK. But you could also define the square as (start at 0,0): LINE(1,0), LINE(1,1), LINE(0,1), CLOSE. Where the software knows that the line's started at 0,0, so the close draws a line back there. LINE and CLOSE aren't DXF commands, just something to I've made up!] The solution would be not to CLOSE any lines in TurboCAD (although I haven't used TurboCAD, so I can't help there.). Richard. trouble is it's not my drawing and I don't know enough about TurboCAD to correct anything like that. Alan |

DXFs are accepted and you can go up to 5MB. If it's track I think it's probably not the closing of polylines which Richard mentioned. Most likely it contains blocks. Templot doesn't do blocks, they should be exploded before saving the DXF file. There's an option in TurboCad's Save dialog to explode any blocks. regards, Martin. |

The DXF file is theirs.Hi Alan, Thanks for the DXF. The missing tracks are elliptical, used as an approximation to transition curves. Templot doesn't do ellipses (nor do railways, of course  ) in the DXF import. I will replace them with the best match to a transition curve I can get, and return a modified file.The plan looks impressive. regards, Martin. |

Sorry to bother you again on this but I produced a track plan and converted it to DXF. I can import this into TurboCAD and also into a freeware DXF reader with no problem. However when the member of the club tries to load it into Auto CAD for printing it off he gets the following error: Command: dxfin Syntax error or premature end of file on line 466959. Invalid or incomplete DXF input -- drawing discarded. ; User warning: Namespace for closing Document is not found Regenerating model any idea what is going on? I attach the DXF file. Alan |

Hi Alan, The DXF file which you attached was not created by Templot. I can't see anything wrong in line 466959. It loads into TurboCad ok, but I don't have AutoCad here to try. Perhaps you attached the wrong file? Was this one saved from TurboCad? p.s. I notice two 3-throw turnouts in there! Is this a Midland Railway design?regards, Martin. |

However, it has only 415,778 lines, so it can't be the source of an error on line 466,959. You seem to have got in a muddle with your files -- I suggest sending this file to your friend instead of the previous one. regards, Martin. |

It's a large file -- it is very likely that it has exceeded the allowed attachment size and been truncated.
