Hi I am after a bit of info, for use on a layout, basically I'm doing a Pizza layout, and I require three Curved turnouts, these will be for Gn15 scale,16.5mm track, the Mainline of the Turnout is 14", whilst the Turnout is a 7" radius. How do I relate this using Templot, or is there a tutorial, that will help? many thanks in advance regards Marc Witten |

How do I relate this using Templot, or is there a tutorial, that will help?Hi Marc, There is a video showing how to customize narrow-gauge templates at: customizing narrow-gauge templates and more about Gn15 in Templot at: Gn15 topic You didn't give any information about rail top width, flangeway standards, or the exact scale (G scale seems to be any scale you feel like at the time ), but I've had a quick go at creating your turnout by guessing dimensions: gn15_4.png I set the rail-top at 1.5" wide, track gauge and flangeway as for H0, scale as for Gauge 3 at 13.5mm/ft, rail lengths at 8ft with sleepers (ties) 36" x 6" at 24" centres. The turnout has a custom straight switch with 4ft-6in long switch blades (points), the heel offset is 3.5" giving a clearance of 2" on the 1.5" rail width. The resulting switch planing angle is 1:15.43 . I set a curviform crossing (frog) angle of 1:4 (RAM), resulting in a turnout radius of 198mm (7.8") with a 14" radius in the main road. You may prefer to shorten it further to 1:3.75 . The gauge is so small in relation to the scale that I needed to reduce the calculation step size in the generator expert settings. The F7 snapping proximity setting also needs reducing. The Templot .box file for this is attached below. Here it is again, as printed: gn15_4_print.png regards, Martin. |
