Hi All

Could I seek some guidance as to the best approach for,

(a) draw track on different levels i.e. one track below another?

and

(b) the best way to print seperate templates for the two levels?

Thanks

Russell

Hi Russell,

A good way to do this is to use different marker colours for the tracks on each level.

You can set the marker colour for a group of templates all in one go -- select the group of templates then group > template colours for group > marker colour for all this group... menu item.

When you want to print them, select the group using the marker colour: group > group select > select by marker colour... menu item. Then print > print group only menu item.

If you want them to be actually printed in different colours, set a mapping colour -- group > template colours for group > mapping colour for all this group... menu item. You can use the same colour as the marker colour on the screen, or a different one. Usually you would want a different one because many screen colours don't show well on white paper when printed -- e.g. yellow.

It's a good idea to keep each level in a separate .box file -- group > save group... menu item. That way you can load one level at a time for a less cluttered screen while designing and a faster screen response. You can load other levels when needed using add from file... menu items.

The above menu details assume you have upgraded to 091c -- see: version 091c info .

regards,

Martin.

Brilliant, thanks Martin. I'll have a go at that.

Found this thread via search on levels, but I have an additional question for you.  Once you have set all your colours for different levels and laid them one on top of another, how can you change the order of the levels within the software, or is it a case that you have to start with the lowest level first and then overlay each in turn?  I often find I want to print a stack of levels in full colour to see if there any clearance issues with point motors etc.

Many thanks Martin...

Hi Gordon,

The templates with the lowest numbers go at the bottom of the print / screen view. You can move individual templates up or down on the list in the storage box. Click the show box list button, click on the template in the list and then use the brown up/down arrow buttons on the right.

But moving whole groups of templates around that way would be extremely tedious. :(

Instead, it's a good idea to keep each level in a separate .box file -- group > save group... menu item.
You can first create a group from all the templates of one colour at group > group select > select by marker colour... menu item.

Then you can load one level at a time into Templot -- load multiple levels using the add from file... menu items. The first level loaded will be on the bottom, and so on to the top level.

Don't get confused -- Templot doesn't know anything about track elevations. You can put your uppermost track level at the bottom of the print, there is no correlation between the order of loading files and the corresponding track elevations -- that's up to you. :)

Hope this helps,

Martin.

OK Martin, I thought that may be the case. I have been grouping each level and holding them as separate box file without problem. In Win Rail there is a facility to change the order of levels so they overlay each other. If you do have them in the wrong order there is an option to "move level to the front" or "move level to the back" or something similar.

Not a big problem at all as I am used to opening them in order. This particular time I was working on levels 2 and 3 and then wanted to see how level 1 sat with the other two. From what you say, I guess I would have to close 2 & 3 and then reopen starting with 1 first.

Thanks for your response.
