I purchased Templot some time ago and now I have some more time on my hands, I would like to master the product.

I am currently using version 0.78e. Can I download updates to bring it up to the current version or do I need to purchase a new version?

I have tried using it but I simply cannot get myself into the right mindset. Can you point me at any simply tutorials which develop my knowledge to I can get it to do what I want to? I have a project in mind that looks a little like the west end of Barnstaple Junction at one end and some complex pointwork at the other. What can you suggest? This is a tool I really want to get on top of as it does all I want to do.

Many thanks and best regards,

Matthew Coome

Hi Matthew

Welcome to the wacky world of Templot!

The first port of call for tutorials is the Templot website - there are various video tutorials there. http://www.templot.com/martweb/templot.htm

It really is worth going through them all to make sure you really understand what's going on, rather than just copying them parrot fashion.  It will all register at some point, honest!

Cheers

We are now on version 0.91c which is downloadable for free once you have made the initial purchase.

As Paul has said you need to work through the tutorials until it clicks, I think most of the video tutorials are for 0.91. If you need help shout and we will try and help, but don't try to run before you can walk as you will come pretty unstuck.

Cheers Phil

Hi Matthew,

Upgrades are free at present. :)

The latest version is 091c, which includes all previous changes. The notes and download link for 091c are at:

For details of all the changes since 078e, see these pages:

As Paul mentioned there are two starter videos, and a long list of tutorial videos on the Templot web site.

Before starting on your Barnstaple Junction plan I would suggest simply playing about with individual turnouts in the control template. Curving them; extending them; shortening them; trying different combinations of switch and crossing sizes; printing them out. That way you will have a much better understanding of what is and isn't possible and the options available to you, when you start laying out your plan for real.

This first starter video shows how to make basic adjustments to a single template:

I have a project in mind that looks a little like the west end of Barnstaple Junction at one end and some complex pointwork at the other.

This second starter video shows you how to get started on a track plan:

And there is a long list of further videos and static tutorials at:

Just ask again if you get stuck. :)

regards,

Martin.
