I have followed the Y point video tutorial, however I cannot seem to get the sleepers correct. I have tried starting with equalised andnon-equalised but I never get the same result as the tutorial and have to set the sleepers manually. Please what am I dooing wrong?

When I make the return curve it seems too short, if I make the return curve longer the point sits too far back and the F9 function is different to the tutorial.

Sorry I am a bit thick

Hi John,

I'm the one being thick. Can you tell me which video you mean? I can't find one relating to return curves for a Y-turnout. :?

If it was a message here on Templot Club, just post a reply to it so that I know where we are. Otherwise copy and paste a link from the browser address bar. Thanks.

regards,

Martin.

This is the video link you sent me http://www.screencast.com/users/martin_wynne/folders/Jing/media/2d24a589-54f4-4e1a-8fd0-49024cd4c502

The video starts with a turnout in a straight piece and you then go to Tools then make return curve (at the start) then you insert another turnout to make the Y point.

Hi John,

Thanks for the reminder. It seems I posted that on RMweb only, and not here on Templot Club. :)

See:  http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=603634#p603634

What do you regard as correct? The timbers in the video are in "equalized incremental" style. You can set that at real > timbering > equalized - incremental menu option. If that doesn't give you what you want you can try the other menu options, or adjust each timber individually using the real > shove timbers functions.

If you want a perfectly symmetrical Y-turnout with split switch deflections, there is a static tutorial at:

 http://www.templot.com/martweb/y_symm.htm

and some important update notes at:

 topic 603 - message 3398

which include some screenshots showing how to shove the timbers.

When I make the return curve it seems too short, if I make the return curve longer the point sits too far back and the F9 function is different to the tutorial.
You can increase the length of the created return curve by starting with a longer turnout, say a B-7 or a B-8, or by increasing the turnout-side (TS) track spacing before making the return curve (geometry > adjacent track centres... menu item).

The video doesn't use the F9 function. It is actually the CTRL-F9 roam function, i.e. hold down the CTRL key while pressing the F9 key. As an alternative, you can simply press the 9 key (on the main part of the keyboard).

regards,

Martin.

Thanks again, the roam along function makes it a bit easier and does not distort the timber spacing too much, I have had a quick play with the other two methods and they seem to work well.

Why do you start with a larger turnout (B6) then shorten it to a 4.5 please ?

Also I do not seem to find all the tutorials and videos, my next venture will be a scissors crossover so I think I better brush up a bit

John
