For the next program update I have added a few more basic shape items on the sketchboard: square, triangle, arc, ring, segment, are new: 2_011318_400000001.png These provide a bit more flexibility in creating symbols and custom combined items. For example the ring will be useful for goods line signal arms on signal box diagrams. They can all be resized, stretched and rotated as before. And can be outlines, infill, or both, in any colours you wish, with adjustable transparency. For the arc and ring, the inner radius can be set as a % of the outer radius. Setting zero for this produces a full arc sector -- useful for coloured pie diagrams. 2_011318_400000000.png In the next program update. regards, Martin. |

Martin A couple of small questions 1. When I tried to invoke the Sketchboard it comes up with a dialogue box saying "Canvas does not allow drawing" and won't, as a result, allow me to add any shapes to the layout plan. 2. Somehow I've now got long 45degree angle lines dissecting my plan( bottom left hand corner) and when I first load the plan it comes up very small indeed. What have I changed that makes it do this...? Box file attached kind regards Andrew |

Could you post screenshots showing the conditions you mentioned? Thanks. After doing what does the canvas message appear? Displaying the sketchboard; clicking one of the add buttons; attempting to draw it on the sketchboard; something else? Does the sketchboard display the trackplan? After seeing that message, does Templot run normally? Do you see that message if you go to the sketchboard before loading your .box file? When you first start the sketchboard, you should see a message to choose different options -- load a file, start with an empty sketchboard, start with a trackplan. Have you tried all of them? Do you get the same results with each? Which version of Windows? Are you on a Mac or Linux? regards, Martin. |

Hi Andrew, No as it won't let me do that of the dialogue box open After doing what does the canvas message appear? Sketchboard \ Show Sketchboard .Displaying the sketchboard; clicking one of the add buttons; attempting to draw it on the sketchboard; something else? Once the error message has been dismissed the sketchboard works ok. Martin sorry that this formatting is all over the place. I haven't got the hang of how to manipulate it better for clarity. My answers to you questions are in bold or in separate boxes. I hope this time the box file will come through ok Andrew |

Hi Andrew, Thanks for the .box file. The problem is template TR3822, no. 231 in the storage box. You have hit a known issue, where the transition curve is too "gentle", i.e. the change in radius is too small over a transition zone too long. This causes the transition calculations to exceed the maths capabilities of the computer processor. Templot tries to catch this condition, but isn't very good at it. When I have tried to make it more secure, it restricts the usable functionality by too much. Usually it displays as a shattered glass effect, see: topic 1391 The effect on your template is rather more dramatic, drawing rail edge lines several miles long! If you try adjusting the radius by a small amount, you will see it returns to a normal template. I have done that for you, and deleted the background template. .box file attached below. This also caused the problem on the sketchboard. The lines are so long they are crashing the sketchboard drawing functions on overflow. If you try going to the sketchboard with the file below, it should work ok. (The sketchboard works at lower 32-bit precision for speed, the trackpad works at 80-bit precision.) regards, Martin. |

Hello Martin Many thanks for your help and explanation. I've a couple of further questions that I'm pretty sure are simpler to answer...? 1. I couldn't see which template it is that caused the problem, how do you do a search for a template by name? 2. I see that the outer curve on the right hand end of the layout (I've coloured the inner one orange) has disappeared, was that the offending template? I know that you said that you'd corrected it so I'm a bit lost here. If I restore it, will the problem return? Andrew |

I know that you said that you'd corrected it so I'm a bit lost here. If I restore it, will the problem return?Hi Andrew, No, it wasn't that one. Sorry it got left out -- I didn't notice that it was in the file you posted only as the control template. You hadn't stored it. Here is the file below with it restored. I couldn't see which template it is that caused the problem, how do you do a search for a template by name?I found it by zooming in on those strange diagonal lines so that I could click on them. When you click on a background template it identifies itself at the top of its menu. This is visible even if the template label isn't in view. If you click that menu item or press I you can see the full info for the template: 2_081615_520000000.png Here you can see: BH = bullhead rail 117 = current position in the box list. This number changes as you work on any of the templates, so it shouldn't be relied on as a reference. PR = Plain track, Right hand. 3207 = template ID number. This number stays with the template for as long as it remains in the box. It will be lost if you delete it to the control template, and a new ID number created when/if you store it again. • If you give a template a name or a prefix tag, these will show (possibly truncated) in the menu item, and you may need to click it to see the ID number. To see the template in the storage box, click show in box on its menu or press S: 2_081632_030000000.png To find any template in the storage box, click the show box list button, and then click the sort items on the box menu: 2_081704_050000000.png You can then scroll the list to find the one you want. Or click any of the find menu items above. You can then enter a search term: 2_081659_000000000.png regards, Martin. |

Well that was a much fuller answer then I was expecting and what's more I followed it from start to finish, which is very pleasing! So once again Martin thanks for your explanation. Kind regards Andrew |
