Hi

I just looked at a helpful hints video showing the creation of a fragment of a plan to a drawing.

When the insert turnout into plain track is chosen what is the default? Can that be changed.

I model to North American standards with very different tie(sleeper) sizes and spacing. I have templates from someone that has gone to the effort to do both an 11 foot and a 16' 6" trunout along with a straight section of offset regular track. Thanks to whomever did this.

I would like to be able to use one or the other of these turnout standards or another that I may obtain or design as the turnout insert into the plain track.

Is this possible? How can it be done? Do I have to reset this every time or will it be stored in the box file?

If anyone else is looking for it, you can find it at: USA-style turnouts .

When the insert turnout into plain track is chosen what is the default? Can that be changed.
The turnout which is inserted is the one which was there when the convert turnout to plain track function, or one of the make split functions, was originally used to create the plain track template.

All templates contain settings for both plain track and a turnout. The plain track settings are used to generate the approach and exit track sections on a turnout, if any exist. Changing from a turnout to plain track simply extends the approach track to match the overall length of the template. That's why the timbering spacings originate at the CTRL-1 rail-joint end of plain track, and not at the CTRL-0 datum end.

This means that if you start off designing with your custom turnout templates, any plain track you create will match, and inserting a turnout in it will revert to your custom design.

However, you should not use the template > quick set function to create plain track, because this mints a new template. "Minting" means that several custom settings are restored to their defaults, which is not what you want. For example, in this case you would lose the staggered rail joints. Use the convert and make split functions instead to create plain track.

If you mean this video -- rough sketch starter video -- all you need to do is start with your custom file. Copy one of the turnouts to the current/control template, do template > convert to plain track, then geometry > straight if not already, and off you go following the video. When you get to inserting a turnout in plain track, you will find that you still have your custom settings.

You can then adjust it to whatever size you want in the new location, say using F5 mouse action. You could then split and insert again and again, and your settings will be preserved each time.

(If you wanted to replace an existing turnout in a different track plan design with one having your custom settings, you would use instead the align over functions, rather than insert.)

p.s. if you have now read, or at least bookmarked, all the version 082d info , I recommend that you upgrade to version 091c . The mouse wheel zooming and drag-panning make navigating a large plan much easier. :)

regards,

Martin.
