Pegs not notching on groups

Says it all, really.
If I have a group of templates, and put the notch under one of them, then when I select the option to link to the group, the notch goes onto my control template, and the group links to that!
Or other times, the notch is offset.
And then, when I try to align one template to another, end for end, things start to get really odd.

What happened?
Can I rewind to whatever came before 227a?

Hi Simon

I’ve just checked this on 2.27c, and it’s all working as normal. At least, linking the group to the notch is - “things start to get really odd” isn’t really tech speak!

Cheers,
Paul

Here is a simple half-diamond.
When I create a single slip from it, it creates a copy of the template offset from the original and builds around that. That's useful and as it should be.
If I then select the new templates as a group, and put the peg and notch under the overall length (9) or indeed anywhere on the copy of the half-diamond, then peg is correctly put under that template, but the notch appears on the original template.

However, if I select the copy half-diamond, put the notch anywhere, then save the template, and then create the group and put the notch under it, all is fine.

I am finding that I can put the peg under background templates, but the notch is appearing at the peg of the last-stored template, when not creating slips, etc.

Sorry for the delay in the response, but I have just moved and for reasons outside of my control, stable internet access has not been established yet!

Thanks.
I have also (since) encountered some issues when trying to generate transition curves between templates which themselves have transition curves. If I copy the templates and make the relevant pieces into single radius templates based on the radii of interest, then a transition results, but if I don’t do this, then sometimes I get a message saying that it’s not possible to create a transition curve if the centre lines cross.

Hi Simon,

Please can you post a box file showing that happening? Thanks.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Simon,

This bug should now be fixed in update 227d. If you find any problems, please let me know.

If you are using version 227c, 227b, 226f or earlier, your copy of Templot should update automatically if you restart it and follow the instructions to install 227d.

Thanks again for reporting it.

cheers,

Martin.

One other strange thing…
Select a template, insert a turnout. Using the button on the trackpad, select to install a return curve, but widen (or narrow) the track centres. I get an error message about not being able to calculate the curve. Using that same template, install a return curve without changing the centres - it should be whatever you wish it to be from the previous attempt - and the return curve is generated!

@Simon Dunkley

Hi Simon,

Very strange.

I will get it fixed. Thanks for reporting it.

The make return curve function is very old and not always predictable, I had been minded to remove it. Generally you can use the make branch track, then make simple link sequence to a parallel track instead. Or in that case any other (not parallel) track.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

That is now working: thanks.

New problem, I cannot make transition curves, try connect between the second radius of each template on the attached, and I am informed that this is not possible, yet it is, if each template is converted to a single radius.

Have fun!

Simon

@Simon Dunkley

Hi Simon,

That's not a new bug, it's an old one. About 20 years old. No-one has ever reported it before. :(

The problem is that your control template has a zero-length transition zone. In that condition Templot always chooses the first radius, regardless of which one you select in the options.

I will get it fixed in 228b. Thanks for finding it. (y)

cheers,

Martin.
