Range Check Error

Hi All
I'm trying to make a straight track template with custom sleeper spacing. After inputting all the data into a custom slot and hitting ok, I get a "Range check error" pop up box. This seems to only be happening since the last update templot did. How do i stop this message popping up? it keeps recurring with every mouse click and I have to close Templot via the task mananger.
Thanks
Luke

Hi Luke,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

Thanks for finding and reporting that.

Please can you say custom data for what? At present I can't find the problem. Thanks.

Are you running on Windows or CrossOver/Wine? 32-bit or 64-bit?

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin, I'll try provide as much information as I can.

This is the outcome I'm after:
127mm gauge
Scale 1:12
6000mm rail length (straight track)
Sleeper width 40mm
Sleeper spacing 90mm (centres)

Firstly I've set a custom gauge in a spare slot. Every thing is the same as the default 5inch, but i use 1:12 scale instead of the 1:11.29.
I change the control template to a straight bit of track

Under real>timbering>timber data I keep the std length, but set the sleep width to 18.8976in so when it scales down (1:12) it is at 40mm

I than go real>plain track options>rail lengths and sleeper spacing. I input 2834.6457in for the rail length so it scales down to 6000mm, first sleeper spacing is at 21.2598in and than the rest of the spacing is at 42.51969in to give me the scaled down 90mm centres spacing. Once all that is filled and i click ok, I get the error msg.

I hope the above helps, no doubt it's operator error so I'm looking forward to learning on what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks
Luke

Hi Luke,

Thanks for the details.

Firstly, you don't need to input such awkward numbers. If you want to enter the scale model sizes instead of prototype sizes, prefix the dimension with a letter s. So for example for sleepers at a model spacing of 90mm, just enter s90, or for a model rail length of 6000mm just enter s6000.

(Note that this works only when Templot is asking for prototype sizes in inches -- don't do it when it is asking for model sizes in mm, just enter them directly. It is also important to have set your model scale first.)

There are several other input conversion code letters, more info here:

https://85a.uk/templot/club/index.php?threads/tip-of-the-day-input-conversion-factors.526/

I suspect you may be exceeding the maximum sleeper-count per rail, which is hard-wired at 51 sleepers per rail: 51 x 90mm = 4590mm.

I can't at present replicate your problem (are you really using model rails 6 metres long?). I will keep looking, but there is no way you can have more than 51 sleepers per rail length. Perhaps you could enter half-length rails and omit or ignore the rail joints?

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin

Thank you for looking into it so quickly for me. I think you are right that I'm exceeding the sleeper limits. I'm using 6m length as the bar comes in a standard 6m length. I will give a 3m length rail a try and I'll let you know. Thanks for the other tips re inputting the dims, much easier
Thanks
Luke
