TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

B9 Double Slip Switch Blade Positioning

Quick question and apologies if its been raised before, but i couldnt find anything via the search.
I will be building a B9 double slip for my new P4 layout and the full track plan has been built in Templot.

On the plan i printed out, it shows the double slip (attached extract). One thing i am puzzled by is the location of the switch blades (circled). It looks like it is requiring the stock rails to be planed which looks like they are now a switch blade but located on the outside and linked to the inner blade via 2 seperate tiebars?

Am i looking at it completely wrong? Or misunderstanding how a d/s works?
I have only built one point to date, so very much a novice so please excuse my ignorance. I am used to Peco d/s which have both sets of switch blades inside the stock rails.

Thank you
Ian

Hi Ian,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

To correct the issue, click this menu item on the storage box:

sort_half_diamonds1.png

Slip templates are drawn by overlaying the switch blades on diamond-crossing templates. This looks right only if the half-diamond templates are drawn first. That happens automatically after using the make slip functions. But if you make subsequent changes to the half-diamond templates, you need to use the above function to move them back to the top of the list where they will get drawn first.

cheers,

Martin.
