The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Can Plug Chair Sockets be Omitted

Quick reply >
As I have a large stash of moulded chairs I was wondering if a template can be exported for laser cutting omitting the sockets for the plug chairs. I cannot see such an option.

I suspect I could modify the export file in Lightburn to remove the cut lines for the sockets, but just wondering if Templot could remove them.

All the best

Hi Phil,

To remove all the sockets from the export, on the layers tab set the sockets combos to blank, either for the FDM outline or the laser kerf sockets as required. You can select the blank option from the drop-down, or simply right-click on it:

The result is (for laser kerf):

To omit an individual socket from the export, you need to omit the corresponding chair. In the shove timbers function select the required timber. Then click the heave chairs... button. On the chair heaving dialog which appears, click omit chair for the relevant rail:

The result is (for an FDM timbering base):

cheers,

Martin.

Apologies for the later reply, but I was away for the weekend exhibiting at Ally Pally, London.

Many thanks for the feedback much appreciated.

I couldn't find how to do that either. Thanks!!
My reason was I have success chiseling off the bullhead chairs from the peco flex track. I am also daunted by the mess and health considerations of resin printing.

Just as a matter of interest. In the last couple of days I have set up and been doing so resin printing. I am using the Alkaid printer with the water washable resin. My setup is in my garage beneath my house. I have read and watch various videos so started well armed. I am lucky that my garage has no windows and a roller door so I can block out daylight. I was well prepared for a strong smell to come formte resin but to my nose I could not smell anything. The wash system is not a great task following Martins instructions.
