  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Exit railchairs not moving with a rotated sleeper

Quick reply >
When I twist a sleeper the railchairs slide along the rails correctly; except exit railchairs. I've got a video but I can't post it here.

hi richard,

have you crabbed that timber? the crab function doesn't work with chairing. use the along and twist functions instead.

for full functionality you need to wait for the chair heaving functions which are nyi

edit: ok i see the problem. thanks for reporting it.

until it's fixed, i suggest splitting the exit track as a separate template.

Hi Martin,
just to confirm, that at the moment, when you twist an exit timber it leaves chairs where they were, but if you then crab timber until it is under chairs, then backward or forward successfully moves chairs with timbers. Well that is what I have been using & exports the sockets ok.

@Steve_Cornford

thanks steve,

the failure of chairing with the crab function (which is expected and unlikely ever to be possible) is currently cancelling the twist error on exit timbers.

we can't leave it like that, the error needs to be fixed.

the meantime, the easiest solution is to split the exit to a separate template. and forget all about crabbing for plug track. in fact i think i will hide the crab button where only those who know what they are doing will be able to find it. :)

cheers,

martin.
