TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Baffled, but not a beginner

I joined Templot many years ago and created a lot of trackplans, a few of which were useful. I built my layout, using the Templot plans. I then made little use of Templot for some years, before health problems intervened. I now want to go back and make some modifications, but I can't get into things.
I have a Templot3 folder on the computer, a subfolder of Templot. dev folder
I can open Templot3 (templot.mec), but it tells me the Box folder is empty.
In templot.dev I can find all my box files. I tried copying these into the templot3 box folder, but these don't seem to be recognised by the templot3 program.
I run Windows 10, which was probably installed after I last did any work with Templot.
Sorry if I seem a bit confused. I used to be very comfortable using Templot, and I've been a bit taken aback by this. Can anyone point me on the right road, please?

Hi Allan,

Welcome back. :)

Please ignore Templot3 and T3 completely. It is an alternative open-source version of Templot for those who like to dabble in computer programming. I think I made a mistake including it with the Templot2 installation because it just confuses everyone.

The current proper version of Templot is Templot2. Download the current version from:

https://85a.uk/templot/companion/installation.php

It will install in TEMPLOT_DEV and will find all your old files. The program file if you need to create a shortcut is:

C:\TEMPLOT_DEV\templot_2.exe

cheers,

Martin.

I'm very grateful for your kind help. I'm now running Templot2 with no problems, except, of course, that I've forgotten all the procedures and processes I had at my fingertips many years ago. I've got all my boxfiles and I'll now spend a wee while in a quiet place while I rebuild my expertise.
I do now recall hearing something about Templot3, but it didn't penetrate and obviously wasn't retained. Nothing much is, these days!
