Thanks Martin I also look forward to the zoom.
I am have a lot of difficulty getting the attached box file, of the single sided tandem correct, mainly in terms of it aligning with the attached Bgs.3 file partly because I can't quite get the three sidings to sit correctly and get the wing rails right (although there is clear crease in the NLS map, which maybe contributing) I also can't quite get it to sit correctly with the turnout that takes the sidings back onto the up slow line. Any advise would be gratefully appreciated. Maybe it could be used in the zoom, not sure I will leave that totally up to you..
cheers
Phil,

Hi Phil,

You have got a good match to the sidings, but I can see some problems in the tandem. For example it's going to be difficult to check the lower V-crossing here:

It might be better to pull that back to 1:8 and make it a regular crossing instead of curviform. And maybe push the upper one forward to 1:16. But sure, we can have a look in the Zoom meeting.

I don't think that is a crease in the original paper map, it is block join artefact from the georeferencing. It can be seen more clearly if you follow it across the original.

You might do better working from the 1934 sheet:

https://maps.nls.uk/view/126523817#zoom=6&lat=5684&lon=13477&layers=BT

There are some detail changes, but I'm not sure the tracks have been redrawn. It's clear that after drawing the first toe position, the cartographer gave up in trying to represent a tandem turnout.

cheers,

Martin.

Thanks Martin,
Very much appreciate your comments I will get right onto the 1936 maps. From memory going back a couple of years, I found the LNWR version a bit clearer, but that was before I understood its likely to have at least been partly relayed. I do agree there are clearly issues with the tandem as I have got it to date.
I am glad you have a very plausible explanation for the strange tandem shape on the LNWR version of the map.
cheers
Phil.
Ps Happy New Year to all.

Hi Phil,

Only the Georeferenced slippy maps can be fetched and scaled by Templot.

That link is an individual scanned sheet on the original OS projection -- the NLS Map Finder system.

The way to use those sheets is to capture a screenshot, load it as a separate picture shape, set it transparent, and scale (re-size) it over the georeferenced version. Using fixed features such as churches, bridges, etc. for alignment. Then delete the georeferenced version and change back from transparent.

I've covered all this in previous topics.

However, you should not be seeing a floating-point error, but a meaningful explanation that the entered URL is not valid for the tiled maps, so that's a bug which I need to fix. Thanks for finding it.

cheers,

Martin.
