TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Inside half-scissors

Quick reply >
I am hoping to build the following but I am baffled how to make the partial templates to complete it. The bit I am interested in is in orangey -red.

The arrangement underneath is for my guidance, it didn't work.

Would some kind soul help me with this

Yours Hopefully

Hi Godders,

Are you after a single slip or a double slip? The red one is a single slip, the lower blue one is a double slip.

Any chance of posting the box file?

Hi Godders,

I call this an "inside half-scissors" for want of any other name that I know of. The difference from a single slip is that the switch deflections are across the diamond instead of into the side road. The side road is dead straight, or on a constant curve:

i.e. the switches are of the opposite hand from the corresponding ones in a slip -- the set is in the crossing rail instead of the outer rail.

It's not difficult to build up from partial templates, I will make a bit of video.

But not just now because the sun is shining and I have some gardening to catch up on. :) Maybe this evening.

What gauge and crossing angle are you using? Is it dead straight or on a curve?

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Guys,
Thank you for your quick response, they are to be built to 00-sf, the crossing angle 1 : 7 RAM . It is dead straight.
Here is the box file.
I like your priorities of gardening in the sun, I can understand that, you probably don't get much chance up there near the Welsh Border.

Thank you both for your input. I appreciate it. I am puzzled why I can't work it out but I want to know how.

@Godders

Hi Godders,

I have now re-done the video with an audio commentary. I have also moved it from the dreaded YouTube and put it on here instead. See:

https://85a.uk/templot/companion/inside_half_scissors.php

Making videos with a spoken commentary makes it very difficult to edit out any errors! I made a silly mistake with the blanking, and had to go back and correct it. All part of the fun. :)

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for that, easy when you know how. That was enlightening and another arrow for my bow.

When you said maybe this evening, I imagined it would be before midnight but I suppose up there you are almost in the land of the Midnight Sun.

All the best

Godders
