Exporting DXF files

Hi Martin et all,
I have an odd problem, when exporting a track plan. The baseboard rectangle outlines are all set to be 480 x 300mm in Templot, which is fine. Export the DXF and import it into Fusion 360 and those same baseboard outlines are now 4800x3000mm, ie increased by a factor of 10.

Without doubt I am sure this is me doing something silly, but ive tried a couple of different ways, and a search through thisforum and nothing has jumped out at me.

The two screen shots show Templot before export and Fusion360 after import.

Anyone any ideas please?

Rich

Hi Rich,

That's very odd. Please could you attach the DXF file here?

On the DXF import/open dialog in Fusion 360, there should be a button for Options or Settings in which you may have 10x scaling set, or some other sizing option.

You can scale down the DXF output in Templot by a factor of 10 if you can't find any other fix, but it shouldn't be necessary.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin,
Sorry been watching the golf highlights and replying off the iPad, I’ll attach it tomorrow and check that DXF import option in Fusion.

Thanks

Hi Martin,
DXF file attached as requested.
@Marsh Lane

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the DXF file. The dimensions are definitely correct in the file:

0
LINE
8
SBGSHAPE
10
0.0000
20

300.0000
11

480.0000
21
300.0000

So I'm afraid the problem must be in the Fusion 360 import settings. Sorry, I don't use Fusion 360 much, so I can't help there.

If you can't fix it, you could change the output scaling in Templot to 10%:

And then be sure to tick this box on the DXF export:

cheers,

Martin.

Thanks Martin,
I'll have a look. Your original message prompted me to go an investigate Fusion360 a bit more. I was uploading the DXF file into library, but have discovered there is an Insert DXF command with various options (none of which seem to indicate scaling) within the project. Having tried that, it imported the DXF but then crashed Fusion!

So i'll do a bit more experimentation and if I find a way around things, I'll post here for everyone elses reference.

Hi Martin,
After two hours of exporting, ticking different options in Fusion360 and becoming more and more frustrated (lol!) i've given up with trying to do it the right way! Uploading the document seems to scale at 100% of its full size (ie 480mm comes out as 4800mm). Inserting the DXF just crashes Fusion every single time, or makes it hang for 30 minutes, after which you have to crash it out.

HOWEVER! Going down your suggested route of running out at 10% scaling (in essence making the DXF 48mm rather than 480mm) when it is 'uploaded' to Fusion, works fine, and the baseboard outlines come out at 480mm which they were originally - full marks that man, the workaround works :)

Now to see if i can design the baseboard structure around the points and landscape!

Thanks for all your help Martin.

Rich
