TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Hi Trevor,

Are you asking how to create a background template?

Or how to make the chairs show on one of them?

cheers,

Martin.

Hello Martin,
I just want to know how to get the background template showing in order to follow the video.
I have installed Win10 on a virtual machine in order to be able to follow things that other people do with templot on windows machines.I hit to many problems trying to learn about it and following it with linux.
I have managed to install and get the 3D tool to load as well. For 3D printing it was just not viable with linux especially with all the new features as it was impossible to know when or why things didn't work.
Thank you.
Trevor :) :)

Hi Trevor,

It's impossible to get started with 3D plug track without knowing the basics of Templot. I suggest you get that far first. :)

The basic ideas behind Templot track planning and the creation of background templates are explained here:

https://85a.uk/templot/companion/basic_working_methods.php

However, if you just want to follow the video, you can load the starting template using the attached BOX file.

cheers,

Martin.

Hello Martin,
I seem to be forgetting stuff more and more these days which gets very confusing at times.
I just wanted to make it easier for myself to ensure things worked ok and to ensure I could follow what was being explained or shown by others who are using Windows.
Regards
Trevor

p.s. Trevor,

There isn't a button for the blanking length mouse action used in the video. If the keyboard shortcuts don't work in a virtual Win10 machine (anyone?), you can find that function in the menus at:

Hello Martin,
I have installed Templot on an old Win10 machine. Using the file you provided I have managed to follow the scruff video fully. Am I correct in assuming I can create the background image shown at the beginning by using store/background on a current template?

Hi Trevor,
Yes that's right. To do that you can click the button with double orange down arrows
store_button.png
, or press the INSERT key on the keyboard.

You won't immediately see it, because the control template will be in front of it. You can drag that out of the way using the SHIFT & JOIN button (F7 mouse action).

But before you store it, you need to click this to switch on the chairs:
