  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

    For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

    The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

    Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Chairing for Custom Turnouts

Quick reply >
I have created a number of custom turnouts to represent LSWR turnouts, diamonds and plain track. When I turn on Chairing for one of these turnouts I get the following

The middle chairs are missing, this is not the case when I use a standard REA turnout. Not a major problem but just curious as to why there are missing chairs

All the best

Hi Phil, it looks like you have a template, probably the control template, covering your background template. If You post the box file, I'll have a look.

@Phil Chudley

Hi Phil,

At present only REA chairs are available in Templot plug track. Templot doesn't (yet) know anything about LSWR chairs. There are none showing for the switch section because you created a custom switch rather than use an REA switch. For the V-crossing section, customizing to a prototype is done individually in the timber shoving, so Templot doesn't know that you want this to be anything other than an REA V-crossing. The chairs showing on there are all REA chairs, not LSWR.

Full customizing of the chairs to non-REA designs will come one day, but there is still a long way to go to complete the REA designs. For K-crossings, slips and tandems, etc., and complex formations. Only plain turnouts have been done so far.

The only exception to this is that you can use loose-heel switches from the first 3 sizes in the straight switch section of the switch list. But again, the actual chairs used will be to the REA designs.

The first non-REA chairs are likely to be for GWR, but that's still a long way away.

cheers,

Martin.
