TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Missing chairs in template

Having been to Scaleforum I thought I would experiment adding the chairs to my templot plan of Hawkhurst. This was created some time ago now well before Martin started developing plug track. When I try to add the chairs to my pointwork I find some are missing:

If I generate a new template they are all there. Does this mean I am going to have to recreate my plan or is there a way to get the missing chairs showing?

Hi Robin,

What switch size is that?

As yet only REA switches and 9ft, 12ft, 15ft straight switches have been done.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Robin,

Very old BOX files don't always update properly, I need to sort it out.

Try creating a new control template with chairs showing, and then clicking this:

and this:

If still no joy, please post your BOX file and I will have a look.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Robin,

Many thanks for reporting the problem. It has enabled me to fix a serious failing in Templot which has existed from the beginning of time.

Sorry you had problems.

It seems most of the templates in your file were originally created before version 214a released in January 2017, which means any changes to the switch settings since then have not been incorporated into your templates.

I have fixed this now, and the fix will be in the next program update. It will need some thorough testing before I release it, especially for custom switches. But there are no custom switches in your plan, so in the meantime below are two updated BOX files for you.

One has the chairing switched on for all templates. This is not really recommended for use because it will make the screen response very slow.

The other one has the chairing enabled, but switched off until you want to create the 3D exports for specific templates. To switch it on, copy the template into the control template and then click:

exp_chairing_on1.png

And store the template again for export, possibly shortening it as part of a timbering brick, see:

It's a bit alarming to find that it is now nearly 7 years since I first started playing with chair detail on the templates. I must try to go a bit faster!

cheers,

Martin.
