  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Hi Martin,

Following your advice on using track centre lines for baseboard edges, I have done so, but when I use "mint from current", I get a dialogue box asking if I want to replace the rails and sleepers, I click NO, but I still get them.

Thanks

Hi Phil,

Thanks for finding that. It is obviously a bug, I will get it fixed.

But I'm a bit puzzled why you would want to mint from current without timbers, while doing dummy baseboard edges? You wouldn't get anything that you haven't already got. After storing a dummy template, just do F7 or the SHIFT & JOIN button mouse action to move the control template to the next edge.

Hi Martin,

I am trying to work out, which works best for me, hexagonal or octagonal baseboards around a 7ft diameter EM gauge circle of track. At the time I thought that, that was the way to go. I have since used store and then I have rotated the resulting current template and used F7, to shift it and repeat. Not quite finished doing it, to my satisfaction.

Thanks

Hi Phil,

Only two. I had them scrambled, to match the current state of my brain.
