TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

I thought I would try out exporting the chairs on a 0MF B7 but trying to open the stl file in 3D Builder I get the following error 0x80004005, Windows 10 home 64bit. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

Hi Stephen,

That error code means Windows cannot access a file or folder.

The most likely reason is that the STL file is still open in some other program. Close it first.

Is 3D Builder installed and previously working ok?

You haven't by any chance installed Templot in the C:\Program Files folders?

Or in a folder synchronised with a network or the cloud or somewhere else? If so wait a few moments and try opening the file again.

cheers,

Martin.

I think the problem may be down to Microsoft. I can only see that it has installed something called 3D Viewer, even though I clicked on the download button for 3D Builder.

This is getting weirder by the minute, tried downloading again and got the right one! I have the Builder on one PC, now to see if I can get it on the other one I really want it to be on! This is on the PC that uses a TV screen, which is not good for Templot at all.

@Stephen Freeman

Hi Stephen,

If still no joy with 3D Builder, you can use this free online service instead:

https://www.formware.co/onlinestlrepair

If fixing chair files, you will probably need to split the STL file into several smaller files of not more than about 24 chairs each, otherwise the online program may time out before it is finished.

cheers,

Martin.

Tried uninstalling and re-installing - no change - I will look at alternatives. Possibly move the stl file to somewhere the program can find it?
