NEXT ZOOM MEETING - All welcome - The next Templot Club Zoom meeting is on Wednesday 29th March 2023 at 8pm UK time (20:00 BST - 19:00 UTC). How to take part: click here.

TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this project click here.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this post.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see The Book of Plug Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

didn't know, incidentally that there was a difference between Rockwool and glass fibre insulation. Does anyone know where to get rock wool, as opposed to glass fibre?
Try construction stores, construction websites, insulation websites, for the best result stick to rock wool
Try to get the "hard" one, i believe it was 433.
Heck, even go to a construction site and ask for some waste, they won't bite, you would be surprised how many are modelling(speaking for the Dutch workers btw)
This one will get you further i think:
https://www.rockwool.com/uk/Or the closet "do it your self" store.

For glue-ing and ballasting i am getting pretty fond of 3 mm sand/pebbles (for me 1:32) and sarnacol 2116(silka), i have not experiment with that one yet....but the experiment will take place soon

I am pleased to hear that my two cents can possibly help you to achieve what you want

@Matt M.
but really just a footnote to an introduction of plastics.
It is a very good refreshing note.

I have a rough grasp of some of the issues from practical experience plus research
for practical use.
That is the best teacher.
But speaking of teachers and learning, yep the hobbies will get you much further than the working arias.

With best regards

Hello Everyone
Sorry I've been so elusive of late. Sadly there's a very good reason.

My wife Babette has been very ill with triple-negative cancer since late last year, and last Sunday she decided enough was enough and died peacefully and without pain at home, in a bed we'd set up for her in our main living room so that she could be with us all the time.

I'm aware that this is not normal fodder for a model railway track building forum, but as I've occasionally involved pictures of the family in my meanderings on the old version of the Templot forum, then I thought some of you would want to know.

Kind regards
Andrew

Hello Everyone,
I wanted to wish you all a very happy, if rather belated Christmas and of course a very happy new year. As a family, we have got through what has been a pretty difficult and testing time over Christmas, in one piece (just about!). I've still not returned to my shed however, or therefore YPM since the early summer! I'm hoping that my motivation will return in the not too distant future!

Kind regards
Andrew

Lovely to hear from you, lets hope the new year will be kinder to you and your family

I do hope you get your modelling mojo back, as lots of us enjoyed your updates on the layout, especially the very skilful track building you were doing

Hello Rob
Thanks for the message, and you are of course right in saying it's been difficult, it has, and continues to be so, although not continuously thank god. It's strange how some days can be "back to normal" and then others seem endlessly depressing and many a combination of the two! All part of the process we call grief I think, but I'm learning to take each day as it comes.
Kind regards
Andrew

Hello John
Thank you for your reply, for your empathy, and for your encouragement. I shall do my best to get back to it as soon as I can muster the energy/interest. It's odd actually, as I do miss it, but something stops that being translated into action!
Kind regards
Andrew

Andrew

I do know what you mean, but for different reasons. The thing is just to do something, it might be by bringing a small project into the house like building a wagon kit. For me doing a little taster gets me going

I had a stroke of luck as I recently won on eBay a LSWR A12, built to EM gauge and just needing hand rails and lining (The wheels and motor are worth more than I paid).

I am in the process of starting a little cameo layout and I need a bit of your ingenuity where fitting point motors/servos are concerned

John
